fans rev up screen goes black gtx 1080 sli

i have two evga founders edition 1080 for like the last 4-5 years in my system. for years I daisy chained both cards off of one power plug from the power supply. so I joined the asus group on facebook because I am using an asus board. they said the way I did it was wrong each card must have its own power plug. so recently I found out I could be sitting down downloading a game from steam or leaving my system on idle and fans will rev up and screen will go black at first I thought it was a driver thang. what are your thoughts on the situation. both cards are in sli.

    I don't understand your question. Your Ryzen system dates from 2019?
    If you're running both GPU's off of one PCIe power cable from the PSU, that is absolutely wrong. Each GPU should be on a separate PCIe power cable, always.
    That may or may not be related to random crashing on the desktop. When is the last time you reseated the memory, all the power connectors on the motherboard including drives and general maintenance? Over time electrical connector resistance rises and this can cause instability, even on the desktop.

    its the GPU. its a brand new system the GPUs are 5 years old any way I am going to put new thermal grease on the the processor of the GPU. I ordered some thermal grizzly. you know actually if you look at my system the daisy chain from one VGA cable the fans are not over revving the system is silent.

    I can't help you if you're not going to be responsive to my replies. Changing the TIM at the age of the GPUs is probably a good idea (you are going to do both, right?).  What am I supposed to gain by 'looking' at one PCIe cable incorrectly supplying two GPU's? That it looks nice, but crashes randomly?

    people say its going to crash like this but I have doing this way for the four builds z68, z170 build, my x299 build and now this and build. the z68 and z170 i got a total of 5 years out of each build the x299 only lasted 4 months.

    That's nice. My X58 build is still going strong 24/7. That doesn't help you though and neither do your replies. You're still doing it wrong. Have a nice day.
