Wondering if Z97 platform (Stinger Core3D 111-HR-E972-KR) will be getting a BIOS update for Spectre/Meltdown. Just ran the little exe and my Mrs' Z97 is vulnerable to Spectre, however the most recent BIOS update was way back on 06/2015...  I'm wondering if EVGA have any plans to update this.

I've been wondering this myself! However, honestly  something about all this drama & talk about Meltdown & Spectre has given me the "Forget It" attitude anymore. Honestly if my computers were actually compromised(already very unlikely with how I use my computers) Someone would be very disappointed in what data/info they could steal. And with performance drawbacks as a possibility depending on platform, I'll almost just take my chances. However for those who do store a lot of personal data & cannot risk the compromise, I would patch & update asap. It's really just a messed up situation for everybody including Intel & AMD. If they knew about the issue 10 years ago, they would have likely silently fixed the issue, and nobody would have ever known. But here we are now with basically the entire world effected LOL, and everyone pointing fingers & what another! Am I the only one who finds this extremely funny in a very twisted way?

Ok should be out.. shortly... [link] from 2 weeks ago:

    EVGATech_LeeM
This is our current schedule for BIOS updates related to these vulnerabilities:

    By end of this week*:  Z170, Z270, Z370, X99, X299, Laptops.

    Within 1-2 weeks*:  X79, W888, Z87, Z97.

*Please note that this date is projected, contingent on receiving source code from Intel, and final testing may push the dates back temporarily.

At this point, we do not have source code from Intel to update X58, P67, or Z77 motherboards.  When/if that becomes available, I'll provide an update.

Unfortunately, some of the BIOS updates have been delayed at Intel's request.  The list of boards is still accurate, although the release dates will be extended somewhat.

Right. I heard about the spontaneous reboot issues. Thanks.

Z97 FTW needing an update also.  I heard about the issues with the microcode.  If at all possible, I would like a new ETA since things were delayed.  Please and thank you.

Perhaps we should let Intel get revised microcode to vendors (like EVGA) before we ask EVGA for an ETA.  Just a thought...

Here's another thought.  If we allow Intel and vendors like EVGA to go about their business without being held accountable for an ETA on this HORRENDOUS mess . . . they simply WONT give ETAs and we may never even see a revised microcode.  You do realize how much of a legal mess this is for all these companies correct?  If pressure is applied, then they will be forced to do something.  I have approximately 27k worth of equipment purchased in the past 5 years.  All of which is susceptible to Spectre.  Don't think for one second that myself and people like me will simply sit back and allow this situation to blow over.  I for one will be proactive with following up with Intel and 3rd party vendors that support their products to protect myself, my business, and my consumers.

So how about you keep your thoughts to yourself?  This is a real issue and people deserve to at least have an ETA as to when the could expect their products to be fixed to an acceptable degree.  EVGA will have insight and an approximate ETA from Intel on the release of a revised microcode.  They have already given an ETA once based on this.  Why can they not give one again?  Customers who have paid good money for what they thought was a good product deserve to know an approximate time frame of when they can expect that their products could return to being safe.  If you disagree with that, then I am sorry but you're simply wrong.  The longer this takes the more liability Intel and their vendors take on.  It's as simple as that.

I want a BIOS fix for my system as much as anyone else but we can't get an ETA from EVGA until they have the microcode from Intel so they can start working on the new BIOS updates for us, that's how simple this is right now. Put pressure on Intel all you want but there is no point in going after the vendor when they don't have what they need from Intel.  When EVGA has the microcode they will give us an update and an ETA.  It was Intel that made this mess and Intel has to clean it up first.  We have to just wait for Intel to give EVGA the new microcode.

Trust me when I say I have been putting pressure on Intel as well as every other vendor that I have purchased from.  Intel and EVGA are partners.  EVGA (if they are as business savvy as they appear) would be putting pressure on Intel to resolve this issues ASAP.  I would almost be willing to bet good money (and I am not a betting man) that EVGA already has an ETA on when said microcode will be released.  With that in mind, tacking on an extra 2-3 weeks to that for their BIOS updates or however long they need doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

The issue with your thought process is that most of you are only thinking of yourselves.  I work in Title 19 Waiver.  We deal in HIPAA.  NOTHING is HIPAA cert anymore.  Apparently it never was.  If this client info which is locked behind what was thought to be closed doors is leaked, it's on Intel and these vendors.  This is a huge issue and asking for an ETA especially since the last one was simply wrong, isn't unreasonable.  It's not like I was an ass about it either.  I was very polite and patient.  But I lose patience when people that only have themselves to worry about try to make excuses that it's not a big deal.  THIS IS A HUUUUUUUUUGE DEAL!  Your little world can be hacked and nobody cares.  If Title 19 Waiver's consumers information gets hacked that's millions of dollars are at stake.  Now obviously the 27k I have in equipment doesn't account for all the consumers in my home state.  But the ones that are under my jurisdiction will have their privacy protected at all costs and that's just how it is.  Now do we get an ETA or do we keep getting White Knights explaining why it's okay to not get an ETA and why I am wrong for asking for one?

I just modded the microcodes myself on my older systems like my X58. Fwiw they said these new Spectre/Meltdown patches slow down performance so much so on older systems its not worth it.

Did the modding the microcode, slow your system down at all dmoheban? Is your fix easy to apply. Thanks

LOL. Mine is still a good machine and fast, and I use it often. I also have an MSI GS70 Stealth laptop that I use more often, but I still like my desktop.

I also like it to be secure, so hoping they do make a BIOS update for it.

Most likely not going to get a new bios update for it though intel released a new microcode for it last week which i installed in my bios. Cant tell the difference. Sata ssd speed feels a little slower as expected.

Check the 4th page of the Spectre BIOS update thread in the X99 forums, they are expecting the microcode for that this week or next week.  It doesn't completely relate to the 5/6/7/8/9 series boards but it does tell us they are still waiting on the microcode.  Hopefully the microcode for the boards in this part of the forum will be arriving with it as well.

EVGA have advised they will push BIOS updates for the Z97, the delay was with Intel. If Intel are releasing code now, the BIOS shouldn't be too far away (I hope) - perhaps EVGATech_LeeM can provide a progress update?....

All of this is in the hands of Intel. I am aware they stopped the updates for some CPUs and this is listed in the news section as I posted an article about it.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

    Ok thanks found it [link].

CPU families that won't be updated include Bloomfield, Clarksfield, Gulftown, Harpertown Xeon C0, Harpertown Xeon E0, Jasper Forest, Penryn/QC, SoFIA 3GR, Wolfdale C0 and M0, Wolfdale E0 and R0, Wolfdale Xeon X0, Wolfdale Xeon E0, Yorkfield, and Yorkfield Xeon.

Z97 is Devils Canyon (Haswell refresh), so I still expect a BIOS update will be forthcoming...

Perhaps you should read the things you make threads about then?

Your article has nothing to do with the z97 fix.

Check the downloads for your board model.  The X79 boards got a BIOS update on Monday so it may very well be out already.
