Tried reaching out via email myself.  Still 2 days within having the board for 30 days, but this was their response to me at least.  Wasn't given an option for return/repurchase.

"Unfortunately the Dark Kingpin is not available for step up and there are no current plans to add any additional models or products to the step up program at this time."

At the end of the day, for me at least, it isn't that big a deal.  As much as I wanted the DKE, I'm really only losing out on a bit of OCing headroom for the RAM specifically, which isn't too big an impact in my case.  The more important aspect is that have I the stability I was significantly lacking on a couple different Asus boards.

Yea they wont take a return just because you dont want it any more. Thats what the "step-up" option is "if" it is available.

Well, they do, but there are caveats.  They're not unreasonable by any means, but I'd consider any deviations to the policy to be more goodwill exceptions than anything else.  Regardless, I had to try (my comment was by no means to reflect EVGA in a negative light in any aspect).

Why bother with a lateral move like that? On paper they seem pretty much the same??

Can't speak for op, but I'd rather have the DKE specifically because of the memory performance differences.
