Will EVGA be releasing an updated bios to support PCIe 4.0?

It seems MSI has already released a Bios updated supporting it, just curious if EVGA will follow suite.

thanks,

    Hello Mrkwhlr2,
At this time it seems as tho we don't have any plans towards releasing or developing a PCI-E Gen 4 Supported Bios Update at this time.

Good to know, so I can sell my Z490 Dark and never buy an EVGA product again, for the rest of my life, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte ... etc all support PCI-E Gen 4 they have already released bios updates. what does evga decide to do?  this forum seemed a bit empty, now i know why. cheers from Germany

Thumbs up? If PCI express 4.0 had a major impact on performance, I could see the complaint, but it is negligible with the current CPU’s.

so you're saying there's a chance that EVGA don't even support intel 11 gen CPU’s on their z490 Motherboard lineup?

At this time there are no plans too, just what support is being told at this time, However in most support is as in the dark on new product releases/Product updates as anyone else now a days. sometimes we dont get info until a day before or the day of, so something could be being worked on however we're being told at this time it's unfortunately in the air at this time.

I do own one, I just got through putting it all together. I'll update "My Rigs" again shortly. I did a lot of research on the Z490 mobo's, I just keep coming back to an EVGA board, this is my 4th EVGA board, and at least 8th EVGA GPU. It's not that I would run out and buy a new cpu, I just bought this 10900K, but would be nice to know that EVGA would at least follow industry standards and give us owners of your product a little bit of "future proofing". If it's just a bios update, make it happen!

    thanks,

Curious what people are doing to utilize PCIe 4.0. What’s the roadmap look like for GPUs to care?

yeah tried  EVGA for my 10th gen build but the software doesn't quite match the hardware ambition on the motherboard side.
I doubt I'll ever come back to EVGA for the motherboard in the future.. features are 6 months late compared to the competition.

I will stick to Asus Apex line for 12th gen build.

You all need to remember that the board needs to be designed for PCIe 4.0 from the get go.

All Z490 boards will accept a 11th gen CPU with a simple micro code BIOS update so the board can properly recognize the new chip.

An 11th gen CPU in a Z490 board will automatically operate its' PCIe bus at 3.0 if the board is not fully PCIe 4.0 compliant.

A Z490 board needs to have the proper PCIe 4.0 trace design, frequency clock generators and PCIe switches along with PCIe 4.0 compliant PCIe slots and M.2 slot (primary) in order to let a 11th gen CPU operate its' PCIe bus at 4.0.

If the Z490 board was not initially designed with his forward compatibility thinking, no BIOS update will let it work properly at PCIe 4.0.

Most of the mid range and up Z490 boards are supposedly PCIe 4.0 compliant but that remains to be seen if they do not have the proper trace design, frequency clock generators, switches and slots for PCIe 4.0.

My MSI MEG Z490 Unify (like the Ace and Godlike) Have these frequency clock generators, switches and compliant slots, but no mention from MSI currently if they are PCIe 4.0 compliant.

Bottom line is the performance difference between PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 is negligible in real world scenarios. Graphics wise, maybe 2% improvement with current gen graphics technology and more on M.2 performance but even gen 3 x4 is so fast you do not notice any difference in speed in real world scenarios going to gen 4 x4. Only benchmarks would show the increase.

Already using PCIE 4.0 on my Z490 Extreme and 11700K. Both my K|NGP|N and Samsung 980 Pro work at PCIE 4.0. I got my 11700K early from Germany.

    Hello fellow German speaking mate.
Correct me if i am wrong, but EVGA never advertised their Z490 to be PCIe 4.0 ready or capable.
You are now upset that you won't get something which was never promised or even planned by the Vendor?

It would be false advertising if they promised PCIe 4.0 with the upcoming 11th Gen - but they didn't.
