Hi All,

I was potentially interested in picking up a 9900KS when it is released and was curious as to whether the Z390 platform will still be used (I'd assume so but this doesn't seem to have been confirmed) and also if the Z390 FTW boards are still being produced by EVGA, as they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Is a product refresh incoming or is there just limited availability for extraneous reasons?

Thanks

That is a good question, I would assume so but Comet lake in 2020 will be a new bigger socket to support the increased power draw so I guess they could require it for the 9900ks as well, it will be power hungry. Its not being released until around end of year which I thought was odd but a new motherboard requirement could explain the late release. I am fairly confident though it will still be LGA 1151, likely the last on this socket.

I don't know if these are binned or if during the process of getting to 10nm, they found ways to improve the quality of the silicon. From reading, only, it seems these are going to be similar to the way the 8086K was marketed.

That's what it seems like, it'll be a premium version of the 9900K - I saw some speculation it might be out in july or august so it might just use the Z390 platform but if it has a unique platform/chipset then it is what it is.

Its going to be a binned 9900K, similar as to the 8086K being to the 8700K. Don't over think it.

It will also be the R0 revision (or something newer, who knows). I remember reading somewhere the R0 having some built in patches for the current data leak vulnerabilities.

Let's hope the performance loss from the hardware / firmware mitigation is not too significant. The current approximate 16% loss really bites. And also let's hope there is not more bad news coming in the form of new vulnerabilities in the coming months and years!
