My computer has started randomly freezing and now when I try to start it up I'm left with angry beeping and error 55 on the motherboard. I reset the CMOS and it started working for another day and a half before freezing again and hitting the same error 55. I reset the cmos again and this time removed one stick of RAM and will report back if it happens again. Do you guys have any other suggestions I could try?

Are you running your RAM in XMP mode inside the BIOS? If so, please disable XMP and set your RAM manually inside the BIOS. The frequency, timings & voltage set inside the BIOS should match the JEDEC stickers on the sides of your RAM modules... Other things to try: #1 Test each stick of ram individually. #2 Make sure to test each dimm slot as well. #3 Try loosening cpu heatsink a bit. #4 Test the sticks individually with memtest86. #5 Try a different set of ram that is supported by the motherboard... http://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/

I will try manually setting XMP. Also I have 2 sticks of ram in slot 2 and 4. I removed the stick in slot 4 for now and am testing with only slot 2 populated. How can I test slot 4 alone, since the board will not post unless slot 2 is populated?
Thanks

Ran memtest86 on each stick individually no errors. I don't have another set of ram to test with unfortunately so I may need to buy some.

Hello, you can swap the sticks around. If you test each stick in 2 & 4 respectively without settings XMP (leave at auto)

So I've determined that Windows crashes when both sticks are in slots 2 and 4 but won't crash if either stick is in slot 2. Could slot 4 be bad? Edit: I lied, one of the sticks now crashes in slot 2. Think I need some new ram after all. I'm intrigued why memtest did not catch anything, but I am certain one of my sticks is bad as Windows now just bluescreens when I have the one inserted.

Grr...I'm starting to see CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT bluescreens now. Maybe not RAM but CPU instead?

101 blue screens can be fixed by rasing the vcore.

I've already had my vcore at around 1.4V and OC'ed at 4.6GHz. I dropped my multiplier to 44, keeping vcore the same, and it still occurs.

Probably related to that g.skill ram not being compatible with the board.

I've run this system since early 2016. Freezing/bsod started 3 days ago.

Could still be faulty ram. Time to test with another set.

EVGA's QVL list of ram is far from exhaustive and doesn't mean it's incompatible if not listed, just that it wasn't explicitly tested by EVGA. GSKILL's own QVL page lists my ram as compatible with the Z170 FTW so by extension it would be fine with the Classified K. EVGA can't possibly test every kit or ram. http://gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c14d-16gtzEVGA doesn't have Kaby Lake listed as compatible for the Z170 lineup either but it certainly is with the latest bios. Hence why it's not an exhaustive list.

Got a freeze and bsod still. I also figured I'd try killing two birds with one stone and tried installing a cheap processor I got my hands on. Even still froze. I wonder if I'm looking at motherboard RMA at this point...What makes this difficult to troubleshoot is the freezing is very sporadic it could take hours before it happens. I'm able to sometimes trigger it if I run AIDA stress test for about 30 seconds, click Stop then quickly hit restart and I can trigger the freeze or bsod. It almost seems as if that power fluctuation causes the freeze. I'm getting a number of different kinds of bsods WHEA_UNRECOVERABLE, IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT to name a few.

Just an i3 6100. I know it's not listed on the support page you linked me but I'm getting the same behavior regardless if it's that or my 6700K

I put back my 6700K, and re-seated my test RAM and ran AIDA again for 10 hours today. No crash this time. Will continue testing. Aren't mysterious hardware troubles the best?

Fired up memtest86 on my "old" ram again and now I'm finally seeing errors! Within the first 30 seconds even. I'm so confused why it "passed" when I tested days earlier. So now I've got memtest crunching away on the new test ram. Gonna let it go for a few hours. Fingers crossed that it's good. Maybe finally by tonight we can put this journey to its end.

It is pretty strange, but I think at this point we can say its the RAM. My system won't even POST anymore with the old kit. Guess it was just on its way out.
