*BETA* BIOS 2.0 Updates

  • Support added for upcoming processors

Windows Installation
  • Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
         151-SS-E179-KR - EVGA Z170 Classified
         142-SS-E178-KR - EVGA Z170 Classified-K
         140-SS-E177-KR - EVGA Z170 FTW
         111-SS-E172-KR - EVGA Z170 Stinger
  • First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Close all open programs.
  • Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and update.bat
  • Press Y to start the flash process
  • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
  • After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
  • NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.

BIOS Installation
  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
  • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
  • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

If it only change is it supports newer processors if you have no plans to get one of those is this update necessary? Just wondering.

If you are running that board and the system is running correctly then there is no need install the update as it is for unreleased CPUs.

Are there any other improvements beside the support for the new CPUs?

Any word on a NON-BETA version to support Kaby Lake CPUs for the Z170 FTW? I'd like to upgrade to a Kaby Lake 7700K, but I'm holding off for now since this BETA BIOS is the only option at the moment. It seems like these BIOS updates don't have the best track record, and I don't really want to risk bricking my system. If anyone is currently running this BETA BIOS successfully, please comment.

Does this BIOS need to be installed before a Kaby Lake CPU can be recognized? I don't have access to a Skylake processor to do the update.

Well I have a brand new Kaby Lake and a brand new Z170 Classified K which aparently are not compatible between them, have not been able to past error 62 on POST, have tried different memory sticks (3200+ and 3400+) and all the same, considering returning the motherboard and wait until the release of a Z270

That's what I thought. I doubt the BIOS chip is socketed either. I think Asus has a solution for this problem, at least on some of their boards.

On Edit: I take it back, the BIOS chip on Classified K is socketed, at least that's what the documentation states. It seems reasonable that a chip with the new code could be procured from EVGA Support.

Unforunately my 6700k had a defective memory controller, my shop gave me the oppportunity to upgrade to a 7700k for 30€.
Any news about a final release bios (Z170 Classified K @Beta BIOS V2.0)?
    Issues so far:
    - I have tried the Intel HD Graphics in the beginning - while trying to install the driver, there was an error "Your OS does not fulfill the requirements" => My Windows 10 is uptodate
    - Windows doesnt show higher clockrates than 4,5GHz (hwinfo64)
    - I already had 2 fullsystem freezes while gaming (4.5 Ghz)
    - CPU is getting way hotter than the 6700k - I locked it at 4GHz @ 1.05V. It even gets 70°Celsius under load (sensor error?)

    Uhm?
I have already installed the Beta 2.0 BIOS, I am having issues with the system stability. (as i wrote above)
Another issue - my pc suddenly turned itself off and started again, that was 15 minutes ago.
Clock locked at 4GHz, Vcore on "Auto".

Have you checked the Windows Event Viewer? I had a problem where my machine would restart all of the sudden without warning or BSOD. Event logs pointed me to a bad video driver. Changing the driver fixed the problem. I had two machines where this occurred, completely different hardware. The restarting might be coincidental, and not HW related.

Got it, all is well! This is without a doubt the most attentive, even proactive, support forum I've ever encountered.

As a counter example check out the new Gigabyte US Forums; listen closely, you can actually hear the screams!

I wish I had read this first!  I ended up ordering a used Celeron Sandy Bridge processor in order to update the bios .  This method worked, but I had no idea they could send me the bios chip.  The computer resets twice a day randomly, usually once in the morning and once in the evening.  Would love to get an updated non-beta BIOS.

Did evga give up on bios update for the z170 boards? My ftw still stuck on beta for use with my kaby lake 7600k.

It should work with all kaby lake. But since its beta may not be stable. My cinebench r15 score is only 486 suppose to be close to 700 mark. Of they aint gonna be releasing a stable version soon ill be getting another board and only be buying psu and video cards from evga.
