Is there any way to control the RGB without installing the EVGA software? Or program the keyboard in a different computer with admin rights and bring it to the one that doesn't have them? I want to get one to use on a work provided computer (and on my computers on my spare time), but not sure if I'll be able to tweak it, and don't want a rainbow puke while I'm using it.

FN + left or right arrows to switch between default preset lighting effect. Anything outside of the default presets like custom colors and layers requires the software.

Thanks, and does the setting 'stick'? Is there a plain color preset? Are there brightness intensity levels?

yes for preset lighting effects. Customer layer lighting effects require software to be running in the background

What I really like to know is if I can set all of the keys to a single, static color (like white), with the presets.

Is it worth the price difference z15 to z20?

I didn't see any way to do that. My system isn't built yet so I hooked both the Z20 and the Z15 up to my laptop to test them. I had to load the software, which is totally benign (no services or drivers), and set the static colors in the program. I saved a different setting to each profile. Then I uninstalled the software, plugged the keyboards back in, one at a time of course , and they started up with the last profile and I could cycle through the profiles from the onboard memory. It's my understanding that only static colors will work this way. I did try a trigger color and it surprisingly worked too. That is, when you push a key it lights up around that key only.
