It will be interesting to find out the cause. YouTube doesn't normally go down for extended amounts of time without a notice.

Do you think they went down to Disable SMT (Hyperthreading on all the servers) because of PortSmash?

I am sure that gaining physical access to YouTube's servers is hard enough as it is. Smuggling in the required logic analyzers and spending a significant amount of time probing the machine as people watch, would be impossible. PortSmash is a joke. It's just an obscure discovery, which will never be exploited outside of government intelligence agencies, for someone to put on their resume. It requires physical access, special equipment, and patience.

You need physical access to the inside of the machine for PortSmash?  Than this is a non-issue in my book (ex:Thunderbolt or Firewire DMA).
Edit: Too many "likes" in one sentence.
Why bother even listing it as a vulnerability?

Well, honestly, I am not so sure of my statement any more. Traditionally, side-channel attacks require special equipment. But, glancing over the paper, I didn't see that explicitly stated. The paper talks about processing traces, filtering the signal, and shows signal images, but I can't tell if they used external equipment to record the data signal, or if they were able to get precise measurements directly from the CPU utilizing only software.

I just came here to post a link to the paper, and then I saw your post.

I salute you Sir, most people on the internet wouldn't correct themselves.
