I mean, if you take out all the stupid Zotac cards on eBay, there really isn't that many cards listed. Unless they're being sold on a local level, I really don't see that many (in the grand scheme of things) for sale. I only count 15 EVGA 3080's on ebay if you don't count international sellers.
Maybe it is primarily all actual people, but the website still can't handle the traffic.

the 3080s went out of stock in like half a second. The button never even appeared. I'd say that and a few other launches were bot heavy.

Also, including the obviously reduced stock, botters are still trying to snatch up these cards. People buying the 3090 (myself included someday when placing a fungi order goes through) already are willing to spend $1000-2000 on a GPU. So botters can easily resell that to those on the top of that prosumer group for thousands more, and are doing so right now.

Further, botters don't need to be at a scale like humans are. A single botter could run many more scripts than you'd probably think was reasonable.
There don't have to be a ton of them, and there are plenty of non-ebay places people resell these days.

Beep boop. BEEP! I'm an EVGA bot who got a 3090 FTW3 Ultra today.

Just kidding, I did it the old fashioned way - after 70 minutes of screaming (figuratively, mostly) at the EVGA webstore's timing out during checkout.

I'd wager the 3090 was more scalpers than anything else.  People with no intention to use the card and just hopping they can flip it before their credit card statement comes due.

Be interesting if EVGA reported out how many of the sold cards end up getting registered by the account that bought them.  You know they're internally looking at that.

Just really doesn't seem like the ones on ebay are moving. If so many people are willing to pay $1,200+, why are so many listing several days old?

I see a lot of $2500 sold listings.  Don't know how much I would trust that the buyer is actually paying a) or b) not going to return a brick to the seller as a "f you" for scalping.  Ebay has zero seller protection if the buyer puts any effort at all into scamming them.

There is no chance in hell I would list my card on ebay right now if for example I bought a 3080, used it for a while, and then decided to upgrade to a 3090.

It really is irritating. I did find an avenue to take my frustration out though. I sorted by highest price on EBAY and just started reporting every single listing as price gouging fraud.

Pfft. Ebay isn't going to remove a single listing. It's all money for them...

Maybe it should be illegal to re-sell newly released items for like 30 days.

I'm sure retailers could do a much better job slowing the bots down if they put some more effort into it.

Sorry, that's not how a free country works. I know it's frustrating, and the ebay bots piss me off too. But this is a capitalist free country, and if people want to sell their item after buying it, they can. There are certain rules like intentionally price gouging during an emergency (hurricane), some states have laws against concert ticket gouging, and you can't buy a firearm for someone else directly (without them taking a background check). But in general, the more government restrictions we have, the worse off we will be in the long run.

It is, however, possible for e-bay to make that a rule. Will they? Probably not.

Why would they? The cards sold, they made money, we are still going to wait and buy the cards when they come in stock. It's not like I'm going to stop playing PC games to spite the companies for how they've handled this launch. It's a trapped market. Our only options are wait, buy from botters, skip the generation, or quit gaming. Maybe when Radeon was actually top tier and competiting and exceeding nvidia in some cases we might have seen it addressed.

I don't get why people can't understand selling out of all the stock worldwide is good for the companies. Publicly traded companies have a duty to the shareholders to make that money.

As long as botters are around, and as long as websites are freezing and glitching, there is no guarantee that you can get a card ever.

I hope all of the dumb botters get stuck with it and don't end up making any real profit vs time/energy invested.

It would be somewhat amazing if Nvidia, all of a sudden, released enough stock to satiate the demand. A good bot protection would be to, as a company, be unpredictable in terms of your stock. If a botter had to question 'Will nvidia be releasing full stock within 2 weeks?' many botters would be too fearful of the risk.

Wasn't the drop they had a couple nights ago supposedly like 30,000 cards? If true, that still only lasted about 10 minutes.

I don't think it's all bots getting them any more but I have to believe they still make up a large portion of the purchasers.

Maybe it should be illegal to re-sell newly released items for like 30 days.

I respectfully disagree. However, if people refused to buy from scalpers and resellers, then they wouldn't be as prevalent.
