Hi, I'm playing PokerStars VR on the new XC3 3080 Ultra, and I'm getting all kinds of crazy artifacts in game (little green dots flashing on random pixels aggressively.) It's running a smooth 120 FPS on my Index. The GPU is sitting at 163 F (72 C) is that enough to cause artifacting? Is that enough to damage the card? All three fans are at 100% at this temperature. (I made a more aggressive custom fan curve.)

Thats a safe temperature. Does it do this in other games? If it does youre probably looking at a hardware issue.

I'm getting artifacts anywhere in VR. This wasn't happening with my 2070 Super. But you're right, it's happening at 135 F (57 C), too..

I haven't seen it happen on any games on the monitor, just in the Index headset.

Hey USALion -- Fellow Index owner here, though still stuck on Turing until my place in the queue comes up or I win the F5 lottery at last.  Couple of thoughts on your problem.

Are you overclocking?  Especially memory?  A bad OC, especially a bad memory OC can produce visual artifacts.

It sounds like they *should* be good, but how are your memory temperatures looking?  Overheating VRAM can result in artifacts.

Otherwise, is there any chance that your Index's cable could've become damaged recently?  Sparkly artifacts are the #1 symptom of a damaged cable.  You could also be getting them if the breakaway connector fit between the main headset cable and the Trident pigtail cable is loose.  Try seeing if there's any wiggle in it.  The fact that you're seeing artifacts on the Index but not your flat monitor makes me really suspect an Index cable problem.

Last thing -- for the heck of it, try playing something relatively undemanding at 90hz, given how new NVidia's drivers are and I can't recall if SteamVR has updated since Ampere launched, could be a driver/SteamVR issue, which tend to be more likely to pop out at 120hz or 144hz.

Almost certainly a tether issue. You could try reseating the cable at the HMD itself (you'll need to be able to do this to install a replacement anyways, so may as well try it), or at the trident breakaway. I'd put in a support ticket with Valve right away to get things rolling.

Thank you, guys! I unplugged the middle connection, and the USB / Display Port from the PC, and reconnected (making sure it was seated nicely), and I haven't noticed any artifacts yet. I was freaking out. Between buying the Index, 3080, and 120 Hz 3840x2160 monitor, I'm going to be eating Cup O' Noodles for a few months. lmao

But thank you, that seemed to do the trick.
