my mobo: EVGA X99 FTW K (151-BE-E097) with the latest BIOS v2.06 update installed
I'm interested to buy my first RGB RAM kit:
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB 4x16GB DDR4-3000 PC4-24000 16-18-18 1.35V model number BLT4K16G4D30BET4
Before buying the modules, I happen to come across these two following statements about RGB RAM kits and the X99 platform (which isn't limited to Crucial)
- From Crucial's software page: Note: On Haswell-E / X99 motherboards, Tactical Tracer RGB modules will work, but the lights are not controllable with the DDR4 Ballistix M.O.D. Utility.
- From ProClockers.com review page: (note from Pro Clockers – software control of all ram modules requires SPD writes to be enabled. On Intel X99 platforms, this is often disabled by default. Check with your motherboard manufacturer on how to enable this setting in the BIOS of your board to allow software control on Intel X99 based platforms.)
I could not locate the option to enable/disable SPD writes in the BIOS after I updated it
Am I missing something in the settings? Would it be worth trying to modify the BIOS file utilizing the steps outlined by "Thaiphoon Burner"? Would that constitute breaching the EVGA warranty?
