The X79 FTW has the RealTek ALC898 HD Audio chipset which is reported to have "DTS Connect" capability.
Will the EVGA boards support it, or has it been disabled? The ASUS P9X79 boards are being advertised with "DTS Connect", and after checking it they indeed use the same ALC898 chipset too.
This will be really great if I can reduce my cable clutter and just plug in the optical to my AMP, and enable real time Dolby Digital encoding of my audio!

If it uses the same chip, can't you just go to the Realtek site and download the drivers? They should be the same drivers and have the latest version of DTS Connect and Dolby Live.

Rumor has it that a separate license is required to enable the DTS Connect feature of the chip, which may suggest that it has to be explicitly enabled (wired in) by the motherboard manufacturer.
It is difficult to find anything concrete about the ACL898 chip.

As mentioned - both DTS Connect and Dolby Digital Live require licensing to use. And it's not cheap licensing, either. I seem to recall something in the tens of thousands for a manufacturer to include, and then an incremental per-device cost (but this was a number of years back, no idea what the current rates manufacturers negotiate is). So definitely something that EVGA would specifically have to include or not include intentionally. (The hardware capability is there either way, the question is just whether it can be used or not)

It would be fantastic, but it is not critical. I already bought the X79 FTW, just waiting for it to show up.
I bought it from TigerDirect here in Canada three weeks ago. Every four days or so they revise their expected delivery date, and it keeps sliding. At the current rate I should have it by August.

I am not sure what board you have but I do not see it listed on the Asus site for the RIVE. I did find that the Gigabyte G1 Killer X79 board had it but it is using an onboard X-Fi chip.

I have the board running now and can confirm that the "DTS Connect" option is not available on the EVGA X79.
If it was then the option would be listed in the RealTek audio manager under the "Digital Output" tab.
