got my X58 SLI classified new many moons ago....at first I only installed 12 gb of mem....it has only ever reported 8gb of mem....attempted to fix the problem once upon a time but did not work....fast forward today.....dont wanna get a new MB so I invest in a mem upgrade....g skill f3-12800cl9q...cl9-9-9-24 1.5 v.....6 sticks of 4 gb.....only reports 8 gb out of the 24

I have exhausted google in searching only to find there is NO one solution ...or maybe even no solution ?

i have manually entered the timings in bios....

any other suggestions in these forums have not worked

I really like the X58 platform and think a few upgrades will keep it viable for a few more yrs

yeah, along with what Sajin posted,
I was going to say that sounds like a cpu with bent pins or a bad slot(s) on the motherboard.
Both of which will not let memory be fully recognized...

you should check the Bios to see if it's being seen there or not.

I have pulled and checked the processor in the past.....did not notice anything unusual....I know one thread from days of old had pics of bent pins ....but that pic is gone....so really dont know what a bent pin looks like

I have tried all those suggestions for fixing with no luck

I am guessing the problem lies in a bios setting ? some of the parameters in the bios are to cyriptic for me to decipher

i am not using the xmp setting

one fix i read during my search was to set the ref cycle ( on another brand of board )....but where the hell is that on our boards ?

See Why does my X58 show less memory in windows as available then the Maximum I have installed into the motherboard? in the EVGA FAQs and try some things there if you haven't already..Like maybe trying different Memory Low Gap settings for one thing.

This was a new infrastructure to Intel at the time, and missing memory on X58 is very common.

As stated, the most common causes are bent CPU socket pins. But, also, excessive heatsink mount pressure, or too little heatsink mount pressure, or uneven heatsink mount pressure can cause this problem. Also, the CPU itself could be damaged or defective.

I had troubles with memory sporadically missing on my X58, and never did figure out the root cause. For me it was random, and when I noticed missing memory, I would turn my computer off and turn back on and it was usually back.

I was so happy to move on from the troubles of X58.

Bent pins are the primary cause of X58 DIMM memory not being seen. I never had any issues with the X58 chipset and consider that chipset to be one of the best Intel ever made.

    Hello sjsingle101,

Back in 2010 I build a computer with EVGA X58. And very fast I upgraded the system memory to 12Gb ram and learned this problem too.
In that time my Cpu Cooler had created a pressure on the mother (very succinct) on board that bend it a little and the count memory couldn't be reached the max Ram available.
Luckily I managed to release the pressure over the CPU Cooler and the bending was gone. I still have that machine as a second computer, but with 48Gb Ram with no problems.

Not relevant but I still have my X58 SLI and it works perfectly. I have changed power supply and video cards , hard drives over the years but still rocking on. Never had memory issues at all.
I have newer laptops for games, and consoles. But this thing still runs great so still using it.
