Since it appears that the HD7000 cards were pushed to 2012, I'm going to pick up three 6950s to replace my 5870.

Is three doable with the LE's PCI-E lanes? I can't seem to find out how much bandwidth they can utilize. Any help is appreciated.

GPU: XFX 5870
CASE: HAF X Blue

Your lanes are locked at  at x16-x8-x4-x8 ; the 759 or 762 would be your best boards, they have the nf200 chips, so 3X16X or 4X16X would be do-able. ATI cards can utalize more bandwidth than a nvidia card, But run at a slower speed. so you would see more loss that the typical 2-3% you would see with nvidia cards going from 16X to 8X, but you would still get more performance that just running two. Going the 590 route would allow 4 gpu's at 16X, as they have built in nf200 chips, but since you only have 1 16X lane, you would only be able to run one card at 16X and one at 8X.

So I could do 16/8/8 with my board, eh?

To confirm, the slots would be as follows:

    YES

But I would put a power boost in the unused 4X

    Thanks for the confirmation.

Regarding the power, between the 75W from the lane, and 2x75W from two 6-pin connectors, shouldn't there be enough juice for each 158W-eating card?

I guess I'm a little uncertain as to the usefulness of the power boost, but I never considered putting this many GPUs on the board when I got it. I'm waiting for LGA 2011 but want to run these cards for BF3/Skyrim/et al.

I am realy better at talking about the power on Nvidia cards than The other guys, but I wouldn't go with anything 480 or above without the power boost, or a suplamental power port. for about $10 plus shipping, it's just not worth not having it. Perhaps someone else will chime in with more experiance with ATI power usage.

Ah, well the GTX 480 has a 250W TDP, which is about 90W higher than the 6950s. In that case, I think I'll be ok. Thanks, though.
