For some reason on my x58 with the 975, when I put my ram to 1866 or 2133, it shows 8 gigs installed instead of 24 which it shows if I set it back to 1600 even though I use a 200 by 21 oc and even with a 133 and 31 oc I lose memory using higher speeds even though its 2133 corsair ram.

What's your voltage to the dimms? I run @ 1.66 sense forever.

I use 1.65v on all 6 dims. I use +200 on VTT and 1.41 on vcore, and 1.325 on PLL.

Ihear of that, but that's if you have less then specified memory installed or a dmanged mem slot. I have all 24 gigs of ram working good, but its at 1600 MHz, but when I up it to 1866 or higher it shoed 8 gig in bios. Im strting to think that the I7 975 I have could be it. Works very stable and never crashes, and oc's very well to 4200MHZ, but the 2133 memory I have has to be set to 1600. and

Does the 975 have the imc on the CPU? If your using a bunch of sticks your gonna have to raise the core voltage on the ram to push al that hardware. Just another point or two tops. The other settings like pll etc... are for fine tuning. If the imc is weak you may not get those speeds with all the ram recognized.

Yes. And Intel's Integrated Memory Controllers ("IMC") around that time tended to be "weak". Intel was just going back to the IMC design at that time, and it wasn't perfected. Keep in mind that the CPU only officially supports up to 1066 MHz memory. You are pushing it way beyond its specification. For the best chance of utilizing a large quantity of faster memory, you will probably need to increase your "QPI"/"CPU VTT" (different names in different places) voltage in order to stabilize a large quantity of fast memory. Increasing CPU core voltage or memory voltage will do little to help the IMC. It is the Uncore's QPI/CPU VTT which needs a voltage boost to help out the IMC. But, don't push it too hard. If increasing voltages a bit doesn't help, I would advise just leaving well enough alone since you are already greatly exceeding the official specifications of the CPU and there is no reason to damage it by forcing it to do what it clearly does not want to.

Thanx there Tyger! I really didn't feel like goin to dig up the info and I knew someone would know.

I appreciate that much. VTT and QPI need some work I see but I did something called ram gate awith 3 gigs even though it was stable anyway. I seems to help with opening apps in 10 with a pair of 970's in SLI. I might grab a 980 on ebay but for now this works ok, but would love to use the rated 2133 speeds or a lower latency would be nice.

Finally got this board to run an 980x at 4.44gtx, and 2133 ram at 2000 smooth with 2 1070's in sli.

It's definitely the DIMM Voltage. I have 2 RAM kits I use for my X58 gaming rig, one 2000MHz 2x3GB, and a 2133MHz 2x2GB, and they both need extremely high volts to run stable (~1.7v or more) at those speeds. I have a couple different X58 boards, but I'm currently using a UD7, and I run the IMC volts between 1.3-1.35 to compensate for the extra volts I need to run the DIMMS, EVEN though the dimms are not running at the rated speeds. Never spread the difference between the IMC volts and DIMM volts beyond .50mv, e.g. if you run your IMC at 1.35v don't run your DIMM volts above 1.85v

I use 1.65v on all 6 2133 modules which are the silver corsair modules.
