He is pretty much right on.  One exception...he glances over how you can control the LED lights with a "can't remember the name" software.  EVGA EleetX...However, it only works one session at a time.  I always set my LED's on Blue / Breathing...even saved the profile...and if I reboot...all is good.  If I shut down and turn off power to the motherboard...then power back up...back to "Rainbow"  There is no way to save the LED configuration permanently, unless you are into Rainbow.  Other than that...pretty solid board, worth looking at.  I really liked my X99 FTW K, and the X299 FTW K doesn't disappoint.

    agree...

Just bought it, clocks kinda bad, worse than APEX even with 4,5GHz cant get it to be stable with 1,15v even thou APEX did it easly

    Maybe some OC guide EVGA?

    all right
I have been fighting this board a week now...

All my teen-cores(12-18c) clock easy to 4,7GHz @1,250v. 100% stable after 1h OCCT test, lots of CBr15 that actually brings higher temps than OCCT... and tons of 3DMarks.
All these CPUs performs pretty much the same across my boards.
I am a gigantic EVGA fanboy, even thou boards are not available in EU I bought them directly from USA.

I wanted very much to switch from my ASUS but I simply can not...

All excited I installed my 7980XE to FTW-K only to see the performance drop. Badly.
3DMark was worse, CBr15 dropped over 600 points the 1st run, and 1300 2nd run...
    OCCT drops the clocks from 4,7 -> 4,4 -> 3,3 -> 2,6. Sometimes it can drop even to 300MHz!!!

    File from 7960X @ 4,7GHz

    File from 7900X @ 4,5GHz

All right - I thought. Maybe I overclocked too much.
CPUs behave the same even when it isnt OCed...

All right, maybe I somehow damaged the CPU and it all CPU fault
    I tested few of my CPUs - 7960, 7940, 7900, 7740

    7740 - even after OC to 5,4GHz @ 1,4v - no problem. i9 - problems...

7900-7980XE, all downclock under load on FTW-K, work fine with APEX and other boards. I have a few boards to compare this symptoms. Asis APEX & RVIE, MSI SLI+... no problem and FTW-K downcloaks Core i9's.

Funny thing is that EVGA Micro - no problem at all(except whine from VRMs when working with 16/18c).

My cheapest board is MSI SLI+, no problem there.

I am open to ideas and suggestions of how to solve this issue.
At this state of matters I am able to throw this board out of my window...

    Please help

Are you comparing a mid-high end X299 with a enthusiast overclocking mainboard?
Well - there is your first problem. The FTW-K doesn't seem to be designed for this amount of overclocking
Second - what are the VRM temperatures on the FTW-K ? All these frequency drops are VRM temp issues.
If you want the max. performance - wait for the dark.
X299 is a pain in regards to overclocking due to the high amount of power going through the mainboard & cpu

    ftw-k is mid-high?
with 2x eps, at this price, with this fetures, its mid/high??
also Micro does not have these problem, MSI SLI+(entry level cheapers x299) does not have this problem

so please dont tell me FTW-K can behave this way because its not APEX...

This is premium board, and I am sure its something wrong with BIOS and settings...

VRM temp goes max to 78'C on my test bench

Nothing wrong with that. Its hard to review with full on benches and stuff considering there will be so many different config setups, and then someone gets all butthurt because they are not getting the same scores with different RAM or cpu, i wish more reviewers would spend more time on board features and what they actually do, full bios review and software suites, instead they glance over those and say "i overclocked to xxxxx" or " pc mark score was xxxx" which unless you buy the exact same other hardware, cool the exact same way and run the exact same number and versions of software then your score will be usually very different.
Tell us things like how many points can you set the pwm headers to, what oc options are in the bios etc.....
The real question is why was the vrm led not lit up and how hard would it be to replace that spider web look out to a solid piece of acrylic?

there in no power for that, and i think i should be full aluminium not combined with plastic. this would help to cool the vrm...

anyway, when i am done with my problems i will review by story with this board and few top CPU, oc, drives and other important stuff

Very odd that the VRM heatsink doesn't light up.  If you look at the paper manual, there is NO RGB connector on the board above the memory, and my board doesn't have one.  Unless the RGB connector is under the heatsink, it will never light up.  I have the other three lit LED's on....

What? The VRM-Cooler is not connected to LEDs? Ok, this is a Design failure ... normally I would like to ask for an updated revision, but in EVGA-time it would be available hopefully before christmas 2018^^
    Sry ;)
Could anyone find or give an answer, why they didn‘t light the VRM-Cooler?

lamrogue, better use Intel Xtreme Tunning Utility, Real Bench and similar tests.
No one any more test CPU with OCCT and Prime95. It's much easier to degradation of CPU.
But for you that's not problem probably...
Even Silicon Lottery sell models tested on Real Bench 2.54.

If you used ASUS Apex that's board with 4 DIMM memory slots, optimized for performance and overclocking as X299 Dark.
On Apex is easier to pull out performance than from Rampage VI Extreme.
They design Rampage VI Extreme for people who don't ask how much cost and profit from CPU cores and size of memory and don't care of OC. Huge number of people keep memory on 2133/2666MHz default, only size is important...
Apex is for OC and higher frequency, timmings.
Apex is ASUSs OC masterpeace designed to replace Rampage Extreme in price range cost 150$ more than FTW-K in and build for chasing records, as X299 Dark. For CPU IMC is much easier when manufacturer design only 4 DIMM slots and that could imact on total score, but nothing drastic..

I received an email from support.  The original test version had a lit VRM, but the final release does not.  Not a big deal.  I really am enjoying the X299 FTW K and the other three LED's are bright enough to light up the inside of my case...in addition to the CLC280.

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your question. The images on the website, and in the manual show the pre-production version of the FTW K. The release version doesn't have LEDs in the VRM heatsink.

We'll be updating the manuals and website to reflect this change.

What about a RGB/LED header? So i can finally get rid of CAM all together! :)  Also...how do you control the onboard RGBs on the ftw-K?

I received an email from support.  The original test version had a lit VRM, but the final release does not.  Not a big deal.  I really am enjoying the X299 FTW K and the other three LED's are bright enough to light up the inside of my case...in addition to the CLC280.

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your question. The images on the website, and in the manual show the pre-production version of the FTW K. The release version doesn't have LEDs in the VRM heatsink.

We'll be updating the manuals and website to reflect this change.

Crazy.. don't understand the decision, but ok - then it should be possible to build a led on my own into the VRM heatsink? In my opinion the board looks "broken" when the VRM led is not active. :(

I agree! Whats up with that? I also think the board looks broken without that lit up like its supposed to be! What is the reasoning behind taking the VRM leds away? And also too, So I will have to use Eleet software to control the RGBs? So that means since I have a ftw3, EVGA clc, and if I get the FTW-k I will have to have 3 different evga software running at the same time to control all 3 of these? Precision and Flow control already interfere with each other and give me constant crash's and problems....I'm scared to think what adding another software to the mix is going to be like!

EleetX does not interfere with the other programs.  Granted...I have a 1080 TI Black, so I use Afterburner.  I also have an EVGA CLC 280 to cool my cpu, so I use Flow Control.  EleetX is a stand alone that doesn't require running in the background to control the RGB on the motherboard.  I don't have it running on Windows startup, and since v1.0.3, I have been able to have the LED's set the way I want (Blue-Breathing) and they stay that way, regardless of being in Windows environment or not.

Good to hear! HOpefully they are working on a way to link all 3 gpu/cooler/and board together on the LED sync! Also, do you have any idea why the RGB was removed from the VRM? Is there a reason this was removed? I agree with the other post, the board looks broken since they kept the same web like design over it but its not lit...I wish if they felt the need to remove the rgb from that section that they would have completely switched that out for a solid piece or something and it would looks fine, but the fact it looks like the other 3 RGB zones makes it look broken!
