I would like to know if anyone successfully setup the x299 card with the i9 10 series CPU. I don't think my MB has the problem, more like the firmware has the problem. I tested the MB with an i5 CPU worked fine, which means there is nothing wrong with the MB. Evga has given approval for RMA I would have sent my brand new board and received back a second hand one, what a big mistake this would have been. Nearly bought a new MB, and what a waste of money that would have been. No Roadmap of when we expect an update on the firmware? I bought the x299 on the premise that it was built for the next generation CPU which obviously is not the case. EVGA introduces you to the ultimate in raw performance for the next-gen Intel® Extreme lineup, the EVGA X299 Dark. The Dark is crafted from the ground up to be the performance apex with everything you need to make a record-breaking benching run or a 24/7 number cruncher, and nothing you don't – a board that is as reliable as it is fast. The EVGA X299 Dark has all of the current-gen top-tier component support:

It needs BIOS 1.19 or newer..See the CPU Compatibility list..It says "Cascade Lake-X CPUs can boot into the BIOS with older BIOS versions, but will not function properly until updated to at least version 1.19". Version 1.23 is the latest BIOS as of now. Shouldn't be a biggie..With your i5 CPU installed, you can update the BIOS and then swap in the i9-10.. Should be good to go then. That board has triple BIOS, so be sure to update the other two also.

Well, it's not a BIOS issue then..Any POST codes showing up?..Maybe see the Troubleshooting section in the Mobo Manual -> System does not POST..Also the Installing System Memory section to be sure they're in the right slot(s). There's also helpful ideas in the EVGA FAQs..Search "POST" and you'll get a list..You can also set the Category to Motherboards to see the Top 25 and Most Recent FAQs. Might be helpful is you listed all your system hardware if you can't resolve it.

What Post code is the board showing when you first startup the system with the I9 installed? Plus is your CMOS battery still good? I had the same issue as you had and EVGA sent me a updated BIOS chip with V1.21 on it and that solved the booting problem with my 10980xe. I have no issue with mem sticks not working so suspect you have something else wrong there.

It is the 7 segment display in the top right corner of the motherboard where the on/off and reset button sit. When you switch on the board that 7 segment display will start showing codes.

Have you tried starting up without XMP loaded on the sticks? With regards to the storage issue I do not have enough knowledge to try and help. That b2 code you get stuck on just before the board reboots show IMC int. in the x299 dark manual which tells me it has something to do with the internal memory controller.

I have i9-10900X in X299 Dark system I've been building over last months. I've briefly used 1.20 firmware, 1.21 good amount of time, and 1.23 most. During that time system has passed many multi hour stability checks without a single problem (well, I'm not counting ones I had in beginning that I traced back to bad Corsair memory sticks and went away after memory has been replaced). So I suspect issue you are having is not due to firmware.

Yep..Was thinking that too due to BIOS not saving but from what I understand a DIMM slot is not recognized.

My 2 year old Dark had the similar issue. It was running well on 7940x for ~ 2years, i got a new 10980xe last 2 weeks and was running find ( playing battle field couple hours at 4.6gcpu/3600hz , passed all 3d mark advance test ) but it keep hanging sometime and when i shut down it could not ( need to do hard boot to power it down). then when i power on it won't and hang when loading into window ( even happen with out OC, rams set at auto and try on both bios 1.21, 1.23 ). it was very strange every time it hang at booting to window the post code jump with many codes and at least 1 or 2 of Rams led indicators light up in red and happened on all ram slots even i switched all 4 rams . Yesterday i did restart my pc due to my router connection slow speed then it never powered on any more all led indicators on mobo keep flashing frequently after 3-4 seconds . Im thinking the bios chip corrupted or maybe battery? after read issues on forum, i was lazy to change battery because a lot of works to take off mobo ( i use water cooler hard tube ). I called EVGA service to request a new chip. the service guy was very nice ... after chatting with the problems he made a process to send me a new chip ( probably arrive this Friday). Seems like recently X299 has a issue with new 10xxx gen ? im not sure let see. Any helps or suggestion would be great and appreciate ! My current spec: X299Dark, cpu 10980xe, Rams 4x8 32G corsair vengeance [link=mailto:XM1@4000hz,]XM1@4000hz,[/link] PSU 1600G2, 2x ssd intel 7600 pro @ raid 0, 2x evga rtx 2080 super.
MB EVGA Z790-Dark (Bios 1.11), Win10/64, i9 13900KS (5.6), Nvidia RTX 3080Ti FE, gSkill Trident 7800 2x16 (XMP1), 2x 1TB WD_Black SN850X NVme 4.0x4/RAID 0, Supernova 1300W. AIO 360 Freezer II.

Thanks, everyone for your suggestion. I'm going to change the CMOS battery and see if this solves my issue. I read in the manual: 29. CMOS Battery The +3V CMOS battery backup provides uninterruptable power to the BIOS/UEFI to keep all of the settings; otherwise, each boot would behave like you just reset the BIOS. These batteries typically last several years and rarely need to be replaced.

i hope it work for you after changing battery!. In my case, seems there's no power at all, all led indicators keep flashing slowly in every 3-4 sec ( and longer time mems leds also flash on it is weird, maybe the mobo problem with its power supply ?), press power button then not thing happens ( i have to turn off power switch of PSU). In Dark manual book says this is might be a cpu faulty? ( hope not ). i just ordered on EVGA a new X299 Dark for my new 10980xe, and if the old one works with new bios chip/or new battery i will build it back with the old 7940x for my other nephew. Note: i have a brand new extra PSU 1600-P2 X1 and also swapped to the old one 1600-G2 but issue still exist same.

Hopefully..Good luck. But yeah, the purpose of the CMOS battery is to keep settings when there's no 5VSB ( Volts Stand By) to the mobo like when the PSU is switched off/unplugged.

Well what do you know, the battery was dead flat and now my bios settings are posting except the MB won't shut down. Even my memory all shows up, this doesn't make sense on how the memory works now, this one is a mystery. Evga approved my RMA, thanks EVGA I still believe there is nothing wrong with the board. I firmly believe its the firmware. The only issue now is when I shut down my computer I have to manually hit the switch to shut the system down. I patiently have to wait for the new firmware.

Not shutting down fully sounds like a Windows issue. A fresh Windows install would likely solve it.

Pushing the mesh clock on Cascade lake will cause the machine to lock up and the reset or power button do not work, you have to switch off the PSU. So make sure you are not trying to run the mesh clock too high.

The latest firmware should have fixed your problem. It fixed mine, so don't know why yours didn't. When you boot your system is everything ok on startup? It's a real pain troubleshooting. Try the suggestion that others posted on the above thread.
