Hello, I am currently running a 2 year old GTX 960 2gb and its definitely time for an upgrade. I have been looking at upgrading to a 1070-1070ti or even a 1080, but as I have now discovered, the GPU market is in shambles (dratted coin miners!). I have signed up for alerts on the EVGA products (nearly every 1070 and 1070ti they make) and I missed one last week... sold out in the two hours between receiving the email and checking it. I have been able to find a few EVGA 1060's using nowinstock (most recently for $520) but should I really pull the trigger on one? I don't like the idea of paying ebay prices for a 1070. Would a GTX 1060 6gb be enough of an upgrade to last the next couple of years in PC gaming?

It really depends on what you like to play as to if the 1060 would last a couple years. Right now it can pull some impressive numbers on some games but other games it can fall to about 60fps even at 1920x1080. For multiplayer gaming that might be a problem if games get more demanding. For single player an occasional drop below 60fps shouldn't really be bad.

While the 1060 would definitely be a upgrade for you. I'd probably ride it out and wait for GPU market to settle down a little. If that doesn't settle well with you and your truly dedicated, as already suggested nowinstock.net is highly recommended.

Absolutely. 1060 is better then the 960 by a long shot. Tho IMO, get it.. and put yourself in que for a 1080 Ti.... but thats only what I did when i bought my 1070 FTW2's.

The 1060 6Gb is a great card. In fact got one while awaiting for next gen chips or if I could find something nice with trade-up program.

Meanwhile I enjoy it with my games.

Absolutely, positively do NOT buy one for $520! That's insane for the performance level of the card.

There is a EVGA GTX 1060 6GB in stock on Newegg for $389

Even at $389 it's ridiculous but if you have to upgrade now, that's your best bet. Though honestly I would wait a couple months. You've already hung in this long on a GTX 960, what's a few more months going to matter? The 10 series is winding down and will soon be EOL. Wide spread speculation is the new 2000 series cards are launching in April.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the help and advice. I agree, the 1060 would have been a huge step up. I actually ordered an EVGA 1060 off of an amazon seller this morning. This was hours before I received an alert from EVGA that a 1070ti was available. I quickly ordered through EVGA and now have a beautiful 1070ti arriving in the next week for a fair price. I was able to cancel the 1060 and all is now well with the world. Downloading Kingdom Come: Deliverance tonight and will be saving it for the first game to play on the new card. Cheers!

Congrats on your new GPU! I hope you enjoy the upgrade.

On a side note, you might consider doing a favor for some less fortunate gamer and selling for 960 for a reasonable price.

Thanks! It's already been shipped so I am pretty excited.

Definitely will be selling the 960 for a fair price... I suppose I should figure out what that would be! Unless I give it to a friend who has been itching to build himself a PC.

Hey Mr CraptacularOne

I joined this forum just to ask you a question but apparently there is a limitation in place on new members for sending private messages, I apologize for  hijacking this thread but I was just wondering if you had the custom patch for the 790i Ultra Sli motherboard that allows an Nvidia and ATI card to be run at the same time without having the bios error that stops the computer from booting up. Thank you!

Hey there, I know what you're looking for but honestly I have no idea where I placed those files. You're talking about something from about 8 or so years ago if memory serves. I can check a few archive drives of mine at the office tomorrow but no guarantees that I still have the patched drivers.
