I am also hitting this problem. Everything worked flawlessly on Windows 8 for several months and after upgrading to 8.1 now when I enable the AUX display the image freezes at random times and you can still hear the computer working in the background just the display won't change. I can also see the mouse cursor moving, the machine won't even respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL to pull up WINLOGON. Please advise on a workaround or solution, I'm seeing a lot of people reporting this after a Windows 8.1 upgrade.

Over on the NVIDIA forums ManuelG has it listed in the discussion thread for the 331.65 driver...

1395438 - Win8.1: When you bring focus to accessory display in Surround + Accessory display configuration, entire PC freezes

ManuelG states that this should be fixed in the next set of drivers.  I cannot post the link but he states this in the main 331.82 driver thread on the geforce.com forums.

Well, 331.82 didnt fix this. Still waiting, I feel like I should have stayed with AMD and their "inferior" drivers where I didn't have issues like this in eyefinity.

For me it's not even that... It's the fact that for actual work I use 4 monitors really effectively (for productivity).  This bug is massively annoying because it kills the ability to do that.  OR it kills SLI.

For me I chose to kill SLI because I work more than I game.  To now game in SLI surround you have to actually disconnect the accessory display and change SLI modes.  To return to desktop mode you have to change SLI modes back to 'activate all' and re-enable accessory.

The software is so cumbersome that this is actually a nightmare.

it's a really really bad bug impacting folks with the highest of high end setups.  Super discouraging given that they don't seem able to fix it and the responses have faded away.

Awesome. Now we just need Lightboost strobing fixed in Surround and I'll be golden :)

This happens to me even without the AUX display. I'm currently running 331.93, and it will just randomly freeze, but I can still move the mouse pointer. I hope that the fix fixes it in this case too, not just with the AUX display.

Re: Windows 8.1 surround aux display problem 2014/01/01 13:04:49 (permalink)
This still is not fixed, just installed the latest BETA driver and when I enable nVidia surround on my 3 screens with my Auxiliary screen enabled within minutes the UI completely freezes, I can see the mouse cursor and hear sounds when I click and do things but the image behind the mouse cursor will never update again until I hard reset the machine. Whatever bug you guys think you fixed was no the same bug people are experiencing here.

Please let me know exactly which BETA driver this is fixed in so I can confirm 100% but the latest one downloaded today 1/1/14 does not solve the problem.

Thanks,
Jerry (aka. Barnacules)

You are looking for any driver after 331.93 :( Which hasn't been released yet.  Supposedly the next one is "it".

Why have all that expensive equipment and a cheap sound system? I never understand why people around here buy cheap sound systems after spending thousands of dollars to make games look great.

Re: Windows 8.1 surround aux display problem 2014/01/06 19:44:45 (permalink)
Hi Guys, I have the same problem with my aux monitor, I am also waiting for a fix from NVidia. The other problem I have being having to is the task bar only stays in the middle monitor and will not hide, this started on couple drivers back. I spoke to NVidia tech and they could not fix it either, with the same answer it will be fix on the next update.

I couldn't wait any longer and I went on a quest to fix it myself. So if anyone else is having this problem here is the fix for the task bar to stretch across all three monitors and will be hidden for windows 8 and 8.1.
Go to Local disk (?) Program files, NVidia corporation Folder, Display, now look for nvsmartmaxapp64 or nvsmartmaxapp I think this one is for a 32 bit system. At this point you can delete anyone, I copied mine and save it in a folder just in case. If it will not delete you have to go to Task manager and open the detail tab and look for NVidia driver nvsmartmaxapp64.exe or nvsmartmaxapp.exe. Both say NVIDIA Smart Maximise Helper Host and right click on on anyone to end the task, then you can delete it from the driver folder. this will give you the task bar across the three monitors.
Pls restart PC.

This work for me, so when ever I update I have to do this all over again. I have send this info to the tech I spoke to at NVidia, so hopefully it will be fix on the next update.

I wasn't referencing to your post, I was just saying in general that the new update didn't fix the taskbar issue.

Version 332.21 fixes the aux monitor crash in 2d but now 3d flickers on and off or is not synced with the glasses when the aux monitor is on. If I turn off the aux monitor it starts working properly after a couple of seconds. Anyone else with this problem?

Re: Windows 8.1 surround aux display problem 2014/01/22 19:58:46 (permalink)
I have the same issue here. I've been getting random crashes and such when using surround and a aux display.

670 TRI SLI, 3xU2414h & U3011- Nvidia Driver 332.21.

I've noticed if I turn off all the monitors on the surround setup the system hard locks. Also while gaming the display driver stops responding and comes back but causes the system to not respond and needs a reset.
