Well going through device manager. I came across this little gem. It has a yellow ! mark and I am including a picture of it. My pc originally came with Windows 7 64 bit. I done a clean install of Windows 8 and loaded the Windows 8 drivers provided by HP for my pc. I installed 8 a few days after it came out. Since coming across this error in device manager. I decided to reboot my pc and now the mark is gone. And it says the device is now working properly? The error code said it failed to start and was not working. I don't know what to do at this point. Please advise. Also note. Come to think of it. I do remember seeing this exact error the first time I installed 8 clean. I decided to reinstall 8 again after seeing that. It did NOT show up. So, I had assumed everything was fine. I guess it is not since I came across it once again tonight. Same post on HP forums. I wanted other opinions on this as well from here. I done some google work and it seems to me. This is hardware going out with the usb ports. Not sure which ones though since I have 10. 2 being 3.0 ports. Or it could be a driver issue.

Sooo. I remember now another reason why I switched usb ports for my kb/mouse. When restarting or from a cold boot. My kb (Logitech illuminated)/mouse Logitech M500 would not work some times. It was not constant but off and on. Using Aida64 a few minutes ago. I decided to plug in both my kb/mouse back to those previous ports and guess what? Those particular 2 ports are connected with that controller in the picture. And they are part of the 4 usb ports on the motherboard. Sounds like to me those 2 usb ports are failing. Or its a driver problem. They worked fine in Windows 7 though. I do not know what to do now. My pc is under warranty and a new mobo replacement would not be a problem from HP. That would suck though if they replaced it and it does the same thing. Then it would certainly be drivers. Getting back to the 2 possible faulty ports. Those ports have been empty for well over 2 weeks and not used. And I still seen the error in device manager with the yellow ! mark. Device failed to start code 10. So, I am leaning more towards hardware failure with those 2 usb ports? No usb hub here. All stock ports. 4 in the back, 4 in the front and 2 usb 3.0 ports up top.

It appears to me to be one of the devices connected to a USB port. You could try disconnecting all of your devices except keyboard and mouse, and plug them in one by one until the error occurs. If you are using a powered USB hub, I would start with that.

Found the problem. It is in fact a Intel driver issue with Windows 8. http://social.technet.mic...4f81-960b-7c4e8c9e768f Now I can sleep. Until a fix comes out. I will deal with it as so. Even though I certainly don't like it. Here is a quote just from one of the reply's with the trouble others are having. I'm having the same problem on a machine using an Intel Desktop board, model DQ67SW. One or the other host controller will show that it could not start after a reboot. Sometimes a cold reset will help, sometimes warm. This was particularly troublesome when the controller that did not start was the one hosting the keyboard and mouse. When this occurs there is a System event log message from Kernel-PNP, Event 219, "The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ROOT\WPD\0000". This did not happen once when the machine was running Windows Server 2008 R2. I am running Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro. The same machine was also running Hyper-V under ws2008r2. So far, as far as I can tell, I have not had both controllers fail to start in a single boot cycle. I hope this is on someone's radar since it would be a nightmare for a regular PC user to diagnose. My Windows 8 Pro is a clean RTM install from MSDN, patched to current. Devices in question (for me): Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C2D Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C26

If you can identify the Hardware ID I can look for a newer driver

Thanks. But, I seen this. **Important** The Intel Chipset Device Software does not install drivers for AGP or USB. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UTILITY IF YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER IS RECOMMENDING IT TO CORRECT AN "AGP DRIVER," "AGP GART," OR "USB DRIVER" ISSUE; IT WILL NOT CORRECT YOUR ISSUE.

That warning (I believe) is telling people that the chipset driver does not fix driver issues with 3rd party USB devices. Those devices still need their own drivers. It won't hurt anything to install it and see if it works for you, worst case it tells you its already installed.

That intel link you provided. I don't see my chipset H67 listed as being supported? Unless I am completely blind and missing it! I am not doubting you and really appreciate the help. I just want to make sure everything is right. Don't want to bork my system. Then again I can make a backup image just in case before doing so. You would also think. Windows Update would come through with something if any driver update was available? I also don't know why HP would not release this driver as a update as well. Since it is a newer chipset update.

That download link was specifically FOR the H67 chipset... even says in the url No worries, but again it can't harm your system. Windows update is not a guarantee for drivers, and what drivers it does provide are usually already out of date by the time they are added to the Windows update service. OEMs and even motherboard makers are not required and often do not want to spend the time (or money) testing every single driver update or constantly updating hundreds upon hundreds of product pages with driver specific links. They will update the download page only when there's an issue to be fixed, or for a set amount of time after the product is no longer being produced. It's up to the user to take things from there if the provided drivers aren't good enough.

Created a system image just in case. Loaded up the link and nothing changed. The driver number remained the same. Restored previous system image. Looks like I am sol until HP provides new drivers. Thanks again for the help!

If it's an HP, then it might be the Renesas USB 3.0 controller (that was the controller used on Sandy Bridge with USB 3.0). Now Windows 8 should have drivers for it...you might still want to search for Renesas drivers for Windows 8. Waiting for HP to release new drivers may take forever. I have a Sandy Bridge Envy 17 and due to the fact that they will never release Windows 8 video drivers for it, I had to revert back to Windows 7. HP support is one of the worst! You might try the last set of drivers for Renesas released by Intel here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19880
