What is the device ID of the RAID controller?

Is RAID possible with M.2 drives, or only SATA?

Can anyone tell me the IRST OROM versions for BIOS 1.03 and BIOS 1.06, please?

Thanks

Another thing I am noticing; if I change the boot order so that my DVD drive is first, why does it seem to 'forget' and reset so that Windows boots first?

Is Fast Boot enabled in the Bios, also the DVD will need a Bootable Disk for the MB to boot from.

OK, but it appears to remember boot order for USB drive.

E.g. I set boot order as follows; DVD, USB, Windows.

After shutdown, when restarted, the boot order will be USB, Windows, DVD.

Sorry to be dense, but I'm struggling to get my Windows 7 drive working with USB keyboard and mouse on the Z390 dark. I can't do a fresh install, as I've a bunch of programs that can't be re-installed.  I data copied my Windows 7 onto a new SSD and installed that into the new build.  While after a lot of trial and error I was able to get the Windows 7 to actually *boot*, I can't get keyboard and mouse working. Luckily we had an old ps2 mouse lying around but only usb keyboards.

When you said: I can confirm install W7 Ultimate on x299Dark z390Dark via usb storage media and with hub on z390.

Do you mean you installed another USB hub device that windows 7 would recognize? Is this the solution I should go with?  I can't get the Windows 7 to see keyboard or network for that matter, so I can't even try the 'search for drivers' option.

As I don't have the space to have two computers and I need the apps on the Windows 7 build that I can't migrate to Windows 10, this is a big frustration for me.

Have you tired installing the AsMedia USB drivers?

I actually got the Intel USB ports to work as well.

I tried looking for Asmedia drivers to install and found a few oddball sites and tried them anyway, but it didn't seem to help or do anything one way or another, frustratingly.  If you've a link to recommend or point me at, I'd greatly appreciate it. Maybe my google skills have failed from banging my head against the keyboard and hardware.... :)

Re: Windows 7 on EVGA Z390 Dark 2020/01/08 15:59:18 (permalink)
There is NO Asmedia Driver that will work :( You need Intel's USB 3.1 Driver. Google search = intel usb 3.1 driver windows 7.
Once you BOOT to BIOS (<- Latest version) you can use any USB KB/M combo but once windows 7 loads you are stuck with the USB slot above the USB 3.1 Type C (slot 6) connector. <- 2nd to Last USB (slot 5) before the audio jacks.
I know it says but I have not gotten it to work = USB 1 (slot 1/2) in Windows 7.
I loaded Win 7 (<- Brand New install) from a USB stick but you need a PS/2 mouse and a USB keyboard. Make sure that the USB stick has ALL Drivers required before install. The other option is to BURN a CD/DVD with the drivers on it.
Windows 7 will start and install the basic drivers for the PS/2 mouse/keyboard (you will need a PS/2 splitter if you want both), CD/DVD drive, SATA HDD/SSD, Display, Ect, Ect  ). It will NOT (currently) install a working USB driver. Use the PS/2 Mouse to install the Intel USB 3.1 drivers, this will give you a working keyboard.
The i219 LAN drivers are the same as the x299 Dark MB drivers. If you have Windows 7 installed from another computer this will help :) You still ONLY get 1 WORKING USB slot :(
I know it's a PITA but once you get the (1) USB slot to work in win 7, you can connect a hub to it.
That is the only way I have found currently to get win 7 functional. The WIFI/driver does no work for win 7 :(
Sorry that there is no quick solution :(

You did the install according the instructions at the beginning of this thread, correct?

All I can say is, I have all the USB working on my Dark, including internal headers.

Thanks.
I will retry the connectors and reinstall the drivers again :)

Re: Windows 7 on EVGA Z390 Dark 2020/01/15 13:02:11 (permalink)
I will state this first to avoid a Flame War. This is what I have found to work on my EVGA z390 Dark SN 0136 :-). From all other posts I must have a defective MB :-( I will not submit it to EVGA for repair. This will be a Benching Board later with Dice/LN2.
I preformed my test's with a Single Slot Wired Mouse, Wired Keyboard, Single slot USB (BT) Mouse/KB Combo, USB Drive, and USB 3.0 HUB.
I also reinstalled the latest AsMedia's USB 3.0/3.1 Ver - 1.16.55.1 & Intel's USB 3.0/3.1 for Windows 7. I tested the following USB Slots/Connectors : The Asmedia's slots (Blue USB slot 1/2), Intel USB slots (Red 1-5), Intel's USB 2.0 Header 3/4, and Intels's  3.0/3.1 Header.
My Previous posts and testing was done with BIOS #1 Ver 1.09 W/i9-9900kf. I corrupted this when I installed my i7-8700k for benching.
I'm using the BIOS slot #2 with Version 1.03 W/i7-8700k, that I will update later.
I classify a working USB slot as supporting all USB 1.1/2.0/3.0 Devices.
I will make this post as short as possible :)
ALL USB slots/connectors worked with my USB Single Slot Wired Keyboard.
During the testing of the Single Slot (BT) USB Mouse/Keyboard Combo, ONLY the Keyboard functioned in all the USB slots.
ONLY the 5th RED slot (above the USB Type C connector) supported all USB devices connected.
With this configuration I can have A :
1) PS/2 Mouse & USB Keyboard (Wired/BT) w/slot 5 available for any USB device
OR
2) USB (BT) M/KB Combo in slot 5
OR
3) USB HUB in slot 5 -> I now have 8 working USB slots :-).

Thank You

Sounds like a bad motherboard to me.

I have had little or no issues, other than occasionally my external nvme drive will not be recognized by Windows, using mouse/keyboard combo, two different USB hubs, several thumb drives, my Logitech Rumblepad, my Galaxy 8, and the external nvme. I also have a Commander Pro connected to one of the internal 2.0 headers.
