https://www.techpowerup.com/289568/windows-11-a-flop-survey-claims-less-than-1-upgraded-microsoft-improves-start-menu Microsoft Windows 11, now nearing its third month since release, is for all intents and purposes, a flop. Market research by Lansweeper, which surveyed over 10 million PCs across the commercial and personal market segments, reports that less than 0.21% of the users it surveyed, had upgraded from Windows 10 to the newer operating system. The upgrade is free of charge. There may be several factors contributing to this lukewarm market response, but one of them is certain to he the steep hardware requirements. Windows 11 requires a trusted platform module (TPM 2.0), which disqualifies PCs older than 2018 for upgrades, unless the user is willing to try out workarounds to the limitation. Another factor could be the clunky user interface (UI), a less functional Start menu than Windows 10, and several UI-related bugs. According to Lansweeper's data, there could be more people running outdated Windows XP, Vista, Windows 8, etc., than Windows 11, and this poses a great security risk, as these operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft for regular security updates. Windows 10, on the other hand, is eligible for them until mid-2025—plenty of time for people to upgrade hardware to meet Windows 11 system requirements, or to simply make up their mind on switching over to the new operating system. In related news, Microsoft could give the Windows 11 Start menu a functional update. Test build 22509 introduces the ability to add more pins to the menu, or make room for more recommendations. The UI could see many such minor updates. Personally I think many people are using older PCs which may not meet the Windows 11 TPM requirements.

EVGATech_LeeM Well, that's an interesting take by techpowerup. Also in the news: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/steam-shows-9-percent-windows-11
What we are seeing is a drop in 20 series graphics cards and also 10 series while 30 series is seeing an uptick. It could be that people having a hard time finding a GPU are buying a whole new system that includes a 30 series graphics card.

11 is ok , but to make people want to upgrade - it should have something better to it , so people want it... which it does not . There is nothing I have seen so far that makes this a must-have upgrade is the problem.... I'm even debating wiping and going back to 10 . 11 doesn't have any glaring problems , just a few niggling little glitches here & there... but again , there is nothing making me stay with it. No great feature or stability that is needed either...

I agree with Steve_b... Windows 11 is OK at best vs 10. As a matter of fact...I find that 11 causes some issues...especially with my Epson Perfection XP-960. Seems that when the printer is on...Windows doesn't detect it. So when I plan on using my printer....I have to power down...turn the printer on...then power back up. If I forget to do that...I have to run Epson connection checker. Seems that there are issues with Win 11 and the print spooler. Other than the new start menu...I don't find 11 to be any great advantage over 10.

I also agree with Steve_b. There isn't anything I find "exciting" about Win11 to make me want/need to keep using it over Win10. And even though I've gotten used to the new Start Menu, I much prefer all the customization the Win10 Start menu offered. I've also been considering wiping the drive and reinstalling Win10.

I just finished upgrading all my machines to Windows 11 last weekend. Haven't had an issue with any on them with things not working. While it's not anything Earth shatteringly amazing to upgrade to Windows 11, there's also no reason not to if you have hardware that supports it.

The forced obsolescence of perfectly good CPUs & the scalping of TPM 2.0 modules is not helping Why be a BETA tester ? W10 has finally matured & the printer issue fixed - yet again. Besides MS always feels compelled to move or hide the tools you like to use, every time "they release a new & improved OS or version of Office"

I don't mind Win11, but in the end, Win10 was (and is) more than sufficient. The small gain in synthetic benchmarks (that I won't notice) and FPS (again, won't notice) doesn't really make a difference to me. Edit: Addendum: Let me have the GUI like I want it...old style start menus...old icons....etc...and Win11 would be a no brainer. They always change stuff they don't need to.

They could give the user a choice of more start menu/taskbar options and setting. I use Open Shell and it still works in Win11.

How many times does MS decide we users really want a new UI and force it upon us when nobody actually wanted it, only to eventually revert back to what it was? In this case they appear to be wanting to emulate Apple. No, just no. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I'm sure they have focus groups made up of willing sycophants to back it up, but time after time it's the same bs - just feels like a few high-level 'designers' in MS making changes for the sake of change, and perhaps also in an attempt to legitimize the salaries MS is paying them. Many iterations of MS Office have been the same - few new features, but rearrange all the menus and shortcuts to make it feel like you're getting something new, when mostly it's just a rehash and an inconvenience in having to learn the new menus and shortcuts and unlearn what was in the previous iteration. I'm not against change, but make it worthwhile, not just change for the sake of change.

Nereus...I agree. Windows 11 is NOT a major step up from Windows 10. It is an minor upgrade with some cosmetic changes and supposedly better security, but I don't feel that it is something people are going to rush to get. XRay...you're not missing much.

+1 Yeah, I do not think I like where Microsoft is heading with 11. Edit: Interestingly, my system does have TPM 2.0 but aside from that my Syklake processor does not meet their “CPUs that have adopted the new Windows Driver model…are achieving a 99.8% crash free experience.” but really the fundamental processor design flaw known as Spectre and Meltdown must be what is at play here.

I see no reason to install Win-11 at this time as long as Win-10 does what I need. Heck I still have a couple boxes running Win-7. Ubuntu is up to ver. 20 I think, I have a few still on ver. 18.xx If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I don't want a Microsoft account, so I have to upgrade to 11 pro which means full install of everything, and its $180. Thus I will use windows 10 for next 4-5 years and draw out costs over long period of time as possible. Maybe even windows 12 be out by then!

thanks for everyones input. I too have been thinking about the upgrade. My gaming PC is asking me to upgrade, whereas my other PC I sit at while watching TV doesn't have the hardware to do it. Eventually it will happen I guess.

Really no need. I just came here to see what bells and whistles make it worth it and I see it's not much.

Just set up my Mrs' new laptop which came with Windows 11 Home. After playing with it a bit, it's functionally not that much different from W10, it just feels like a cosmetic / UI change for the most part. I'm left thinking "what was the point?" - other than to annoy everyone. Some complaints: Task bar icons and task bar itself can't be made smaller without regedit changes - I really dislike the fat default bottom taskbar with (relatively) large icons. Might be acceptable on a 27" monitor, but when viewed on a 15.6" laptop it's just way too much real estate wasted while serving absolutely zero functional purpose in doing so. Can't get rid of the 'recommended' section in the start menu, so ~35% of the start menu is just wasted space. Some people might use that section but many won't, so make it optional. Start menu customization is extremely limited. I really don't like the centered task bar icons, fortunately MS added an option to shift them to the left. I'm sure there will be a few more little issues along the way, but those are my first impressions. No problems with printer drivers or anything else yet. Laptop is a 15.6" Samsung Galaxy Book Pro with i7-1165G7 and Intel Iris XE graphics btw.
