Since Microsoft basically stopped Windows 7 support it was bound to happen that Windows 10 would eventually come out on top. Personally I think this trend will continue despite Windows 7 popularity with gamers. Windows 7 is still a great operating system.

Windows 7 will be my OS till 2020. Nothing that 10 can give me but headaches, frustration, and anger.

I told myself I'd be migrating back to Windows 7, but keep putting it off. Hoping I push myself to do it soon. Everytime I use the wife's computer I rememeber just how great and less of a cluster F that Windows 7 is. And I am sure with how long Microsoft had the free upgrade available, it was only due time before 10 eventually was the more popular OS. Put the word free out there and everyone will eventually hop on lol. Hec how many computers automatically installed 10. I had 6 Computers at the dealership automatically install overnight, boy was that fun to deal with when I got to work that day

Star Citizens is using Vulcan API and eventually will have a native Linux client.  I don't know why any major studio would choose to lock itself to windows only by using DX11 or DX12.

Not in my house it is not. Depends on what you mean by popular, like better or have more of.

Popular is a qualitative word, I think you mean to use a quantitative word instead. People really don't have a firm grasp of the English language anymore.

Forget about the browser... not secure at all! But what choices do you have as a gamer, Windows or windows and the competition is no one!

I use Windows 10 without problems and just recently did a fresh install on NVMe RAID. Windows 10 works fine for gaming and it works with older games. Windows 7 was great and still is great, but I feel security is more updated on Windows 10.

And will you still like windows when everything you want to run has to come from the Microsoft app store?
I think that is the way they are going.
Don't like the forced updates and reboots when you are in the middle of a project.
The OS it self does seem to work fine. Just the crap you have to put up with to make it works the way you want.
If I want to use an older video driver, leave me alone and let me run it. Don't force the newest driver on me.
I'll reboot when I am damn good and ready to reboot.
I did evey trick there is for it to not update, guess what, it updated to the newest ver. anyway and rebooted.
I also need MCE, can't get it on win10, so I have to have 3 of my systems still be on win7
And yes win 7pro still has updates, and they are fast again like they used to be.

I really don't find much problem with Windows 10. I don't like it as much as Windows 7 but have got used to it for my own personal use. The thing that does make me happy though is my parents seem to not have as much trouble with it and don't get into things they shouldn't be adjusting which is nice. I guess my frustration is what I want to do is buried deeper then it used to be but at the same time it keeps people from messing up the computer.

Yep, a clean install is what I did, zero issues.

Also I liked Star Wars The Last Jedi, a slightly controversial film. But I thought you did a great job, Rian!

I'd be curious to see how many are running something like classic she'll to get a semi-reasonable start menu back.

I still after several years absolutely abhor the rediculous and nearly worthless replacement of the control panel.

The new settings app is actually quite convenient from a support standpoint. Most settings are present in it, and instead of having to exit one cpl and open the other i can navigate the settings app much faster on a user's system. It's also easier to show them how to do something on their own than Windows 7 ever was. 10 is absolutely better than 7 in ease of support for the IT department.

I would have to wonder if the numbers game has more to do with New PC sales and lack of a Retail option to buy Win 7 -- than people willingly jumping on to the Win 10 bandwagon.

Hell yes, it's bad. Windows 10 patched so often that it killed off the product line I managed and was a part of for a decade. It became economically unfeasible to patch every time Windows 10 pushed an update. Windows 10 is cancer to me. I admit you really have no clue.

Compared to the UNUSABLE INTERFACE on WIndows 8, no it's not that bad.
Compared to ME, it's not that bad.
Compared to Vista .... now we're getting into the right level of BAD.

The numbers game has EVERYTHING to do with the major manufacturers not offering anything BUT Windows 10 (or LINUX in a few cases) for a few years now and Microsoft DELIBERATELY going out of it's way to refuse to support new hardware on Windows 7 (AMD in particular has worked around that for Ryzen, along with a LOT of 3'd party manufacturers, which SHOULD be telling Microsoft something about what a BAD IDEA it is).

The OS itself does NOT "work fine" - I had more issues out of ONE Windows 10 machine than I did out of every other machine in this place COMBINED (though to be fair the Win 7 machines give me more issues than the LINUX machines even when both are doing the SAME THING).

If it wasn't for GAME makers almost all insisting on Windows specific (or console specific), Windows would probably have died years ago.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Windows 10 is not a choice, it's a mandate. People talk as though we deliberately chose Windows 10 over something else. This is like saying Comcast is popular in a market where there is no viable alternative then posting tech news about it.

Windows 10 is not a choice, it's a mandate. People talk as though we deliberately chose Windows 10 over something else. This is like saying Comcast is popular in a market where there is no viable alternative then posting tech news about it.

     ^ this. exactly.

I actually surprisingly like Windows 10 - sure there are some... or a lot... of flaws but I got used to it rather quickly in comparison to the awful attempt at switching to 8.1
Regardless - I think it's terrible how they're trying to force us to switch - while I can see it from a market standpoint it's just kinda annoying.

Microsoft for a long time relied on "OS revenues" to finance all of their other activities.
It's STILL a major part of their bottom line, but hasn't been the majority for quite a while - but they STILL love that "very high margin huge income stream with almost no competition".
It looks like one of the reasons they want to make Windows 10 "the final version of Windows" is the relatively high costs when they do a major OS revamp - they appear to have finally realized that they don't have to do a new OS version every few years to keep the income stream going.
Unfortunately, they got into a cycle of "bad -  poor - good" OS releases after XP, and Windows 10 is the "poor" part of the cycle.
2000/XP - GOOD (keep in mind that XP started out as a "cut down" version of Windows 2000).
    ME - BAD
    Vista - POOR
    7 - Good.
    8 - BAD
    10 - POOR

They should have waited for whatever their NEXT Windows version was going to be to make it the "final" version.

THAT'S why LINUX worries them, and why they spent MILLIONS supporting SCO (no mater HOW thinly they tried to hide it) during the SCO lawsuit against LINUX fiasco, to try to kill LINUX.
If LINUX ever got big for desktop usage, it would have a direct serious negative effect on the Microsoft bottom line.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.
