https://news.softpedia.com/news/windows-10-may-2020-update-crashing-with-a-bsod-due-to-old-nvidia-drivers-530098.shtml Microsoft has recently started the rollout of Windows 10 May 2020 Update, or version 2004, and the company has also revealed some of the issues that users might come across after installing this new release. One of them concerns old NVIDIA drivers that might be running on computers upgraded to Windows 10 version 2004, so the software giant discovered that these devices could hit a fatal crash, also known as the Blue Screen of Death. And it’s all because of these old drivers, Microsoft says, so technically, it should be enough to update the drivers to be able to use the May 2020 Update without this issue.
Microsoft says only drivers with version lower than 358.00 are affected.
“Nvidia and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with certain versions of Nvidia display adapter drivers and Windows 10, version 2004 (the Windows 10 May 2020 Update). Windows 10 devices with affected Nvidia display driver versions might receive a stop error with a blue screen or other issues during or after installing the update to Windows 10, version 2004. The affected drivers are any version lower than 358.00,” Microsoft says.
For the time being, the only workaround is to just update the drivers to a newer version. Microsoft says it’s also working with NVIDIA for a fix, but an ETA as to when it could land isn’t yet available.
So keep your NVIDIA drivers up to date before you perform the latest Microsoft update.
