Okay, so the weirdest thing just happened to me. I was playing a game, when my screen went black, and the game crashed with Unity (the game engine) spouting something about not being able to support my resolution.

I hit control shift escape to see what was going on, and for some reason there's a Windows update thing, and a Nvidia driver update running, all without my permission while I was using my computer.

I then went into the Nvidia control panel (it was away for a bit, and came back) to see what I driver I was running. I'm now running 382.05 for some reason, when I was running 381.65.

Any idea what could've happened? Should I be concerned whether it's a virus? It's so hard to tell because Windows 10 does things on it's own, resulting in unintended functions; so by definition it is a virus... Anyway, is this normal Windows operation? Anyone else having this stupid issue?

This has been reported before. My fix...

#1 Set device installation settings set to "No".
#2 Set windows update to disabled inside services.msc.
#3 Set windows update tasks to disabled inside taskschd.msc. Done.

To update windows once a month just re-enable the above and check for updates. Done. Don't forget to disable again after updating for the month.

Oh okay, that freaked me out a little. Why the hell would Windows update a driver while the computer is in use? Microsoft has a way of getting on my nerves with how they handle their products recently  Damn near makes me want to go over to Linux, or even Mac.

Microsoft really needs to get their act together.

It's a Windows 10 Home "feature." You literally have no control unless you disable a bunch of stuff, and even then M$ still forces GPU updates on you when they deem it "critical."

It happened to me and I run Windows 10 Pro with those settings turned off like Sajin posted. It took me modifying the registry to stop it from happening because M$ REALLY didn't want me running 373.06 drivers for some reason.

That is interesting. It has never happened to me. I am running the home edition.

As far as I know all the newer versions of DDU (button on the ui)will deactivate windows driver updates. Just leaving the cumulative and critical ones we need.
But from what I remember both the anniversary and creators update reset that and I just ran DDU again both times as a quick remedy.
I could be mistaken though.

You may want to review this.
DDU has no effect on what Drivers Windows Update Installs only what you install through Device Manager.
