Was wondering today why I was experiencing some strange audio issues.
Went to the Windows 10 Creators update and it reset all my GPU driver settings as well as my audio settings.
Audio sounded strange, a lot louder with the same settings.
Messed with it for a bit, but it seems like the lower pitched noises like Bass and treble are all a mess and mixed together.
Most evident on FPS games, tried a bit of BF1 and the sound was quite terrible. Background noise was this constant... low rumble mixed with what sounded like wind blowing.

Did a quick google search, seems like i'm not alone. I don't see a fix so far, apparently those with Beats audio could just reinstall their software, but I don't.

What should I do? Roll back the update?

I've been using the CU for a bit, and haven't noticed any audio issues with the integrated Realtek card and drivers. They've certainly gotten better, as they'd break with every minor update.

Are you using the onboard sound? I think the CU also added some enhancements that weren't there before, and will only show if your speaker setup is set to Headphones. Go into the sound control panel and make sure that they're turned off.

there's a setting called spatial sound, make sure that's set to none, or it'll try to mess with the sound a fair bit, not sure what else it might be.

    Thanks guys!
I reinstalled my Realtek drivers from the ASUS website.
It... I believe made it better, but I'll need to do a bit more testing since I did it late last night.

I'm using on board sound on my Z170-Pro.
I'm using headphones, and they're actually set as speakers....

When I first noticed it, I noticed a lot of sounds sounded deeper and clearer. Media and what not was good, it was rather bad in FPS, made all the deep sounds mash together.

I'll try what you guys suggested! And I'll get back to you, thanks!

It also helps to set the Realtek Service on a Delay Startup.

Could you fix the Nvidia settings? My custom resolutions got reset, so I create them again but they dont seem to appear in games as an option as they use to do before.

    Welcome to the Forum Jonhyge
That would be best asked over on NVIDIA's Website, they maintain and develop the Drivers.
And or maybe Microsoft Support for the New Windows 10 Creators Operating System.
It also may be a Game issue that may need a Patch to run under Windows 10 Creators at it's peek.

For major updates I just do a fresh install which I usually do about once a year anyway. Then I have everything setup perfectly. Major updates tend to override some things.

I know I asked this before but from an Windows 7 to Windows 10 to the AU to now this Creators Update or CU on a fresh Install did you need a Key or did it activate ok without one?

None of this worked for me so I went ahead and uninstalled the update.
It also caused some mods in a game to not work anymore.
After the rollback, everything's back to before.

And to answer your question I did fix my Nvidia settings. Though... Mine was easy and not a custom resolution :/ just changed power to max performance, turned on Vsync and set color range to full.

Off Topic: I've come across on more than occasion the OEM Windows key in the firmware (UEFI was enabled, not native CSM) prompts for the key. Using NIRSoft Produkey, I pull the key from the HDD and afterwards when the OS is freshly installed, use Produkey on that system. It shows two different keys, believe it or not. I activated it previously using the HDD key pull with no issues.

Edit: After every major W10 build, Windows will prompt you in the Action Center to: finish installing the device drivers.

I always clear the Action Center and disable driver updates in the Control Panel. Otherwise, it will overwrite my X-Fi drivers and make the Creatively Audio Control Center unusable.

You need to apply some tricks in order to make your System's Audio working
    • Make sure Sound-Related Hardware are Ok
    • Troubleshoot “No Sound on Windows 10 Creators Update”
    • Turn on the Windows Audio Services
    • Modify the Sound/Audio Settings
The above discussed solutions are fully described @
