Okay this is just ridiculous, like someone else on this forum said, I have never had so much trouble trying to throw 800+ dollars at a company for their products!

How much time do you waste each day sitting in front of your computer, smashing F5 to refresh newegg, bestbuy, EVGA, etc?

Why not just open pre-order and send out cards in order of pre-order numbers when they are back in stock?

Like Tesla. It is fine to tell me that my order won't ship for another 3 months, I just don't like hanging in the air, playing the guessing game of when it will restock (getting up 6 am each morning to check for restock?), and constantly trying to compete with bots.

Pre-order gives consumers peace of mind, gives the manufacture an estimate of demand (so that they will not overproduce), and save the entire society countless hours combined that can be spent on other more productive things!

You can preorder at CDW but there's like an ETA of November and you pay an extra $200

go buy a 2070 or 2080  and do step-up, you'll have your NEW 3080 or 90 in about 4-6 months...

What? That's absurd! So what are you getting for that extra $200? More wait time?

Supposedly NVidia said no, so AIB’s must abide by NVidia’s rules.

No idea about the proof behind that, but this has come up plenty of times and now it is just beating a dead horse. NVidia doesn’t allow preorders, so they aren’t going to be available.

What third party sellers do is not the same, as they are not bound to NVidia contracts the same way.

Yeah at this point this may be the only way to get one before the year is out.

They don’t even need to do a preorder. Preorder means ordering something before it’s released. The product is already released. They already have a way to collect names, it’s the notify me button. Remove dupes and enter everyone in a queue. Start sending out links as product comes in. It really isn’t that hard and would take all of a few hours or so to code up the process.

Yeah, just start an Email queue with a specific product link to buy for a limited time. Just go down the list, they have 30min-1hour to reply, and then they get crossed off the list and on downward it goes. I'd much rather that instead of constantly looking at 6 different pages hoping to spot one and spamming F5, then getting to checkout for the "not in stock" reply.

It would be controversial, but I wonder why none of the AIBs do a Vickrey auction. Anyone can submit a sealed bid and highest bids are fulfilled using however many cards they have available at the price of the lowest successful bidder. AIBs get extra profit, the whales get their cards, and scalpers get left with nothing. This would definitely inflate prices at launch, but once inventory is stable it can return to MSRP.

For some reason this doesn't suprise me at all. Sounds honestly just like Nvidia.

I wonder if the thinking here is that if they dont have a giant back order queue, that investors wont demand they find a way to make more quicker as there really is only so much fab space.

Either way I agree with other users its nothing but pure stupidity on nvidias part.

Unfortunately, I just don't foresee AMD actually competing at the high end even if I wish they could pull off a modern 290x. So 3080 and 3090 will continue to be all but unavailable for a few more months.

Maybe I can get myself a late Christmas present assuming Nvidia doesnt stop making the founders editions.

Nvidia said no to pre-orders, not to backorders, which is I believe is what OP is suggesting.

Nvidia launches are always trash. I never have any problems getting any other product like I do Nvidia's. It's hard to believe that they don't push artificial demand/lower supply.

Given the overwhelming demand for the XSX and PS5 I think Covid has more to do with it than anything else.
