If you wait for the RTX 4080, you won't need to buy a new power supply.
I know that is a bit of a joke. But, honestly, isn't it a little concerning that all of these people are suddenly needing to buy new power supplies? Aren't you a little concerned about how much money you will need to spend for silicon which is objectively not great?
With the rumors of TSMC making RTX 3xxx series 7 nm cards soon, I would at least wait a bit to find out if that turns out to be true. If such a card exists, it would almost certainly be objectively better and not require upgrading your power supply. Spend $200 for an un-needed power supply upgrade now, or wait, and save those $200 for something more deserving.
Even if I was in the market for a new video card, like I did for the GTX 4xx series, I would sit this round out. These Ampere video cards are flawed. Something better will come sooner or later. With the short supply, high prices, economic crisis, much more important things to worry about, high power consumption, high heat production, etcetera, etcetera, I can't think of a better time to not buy a RTX 3xxx series video card.
