Hey all,
I have a EVGA GTX-1070 FTW. I got it just after the updated pads were making it into the stores. The system(s) that it is in is usually on 24/7. But the card is quiet and still operates like a new card. I clean my PC usually at 9 mos-a year so things don't get too dirty inside before I blow out all the dust.
My question is, It is still the original thermal paste that is on the chip. When should I consider replacing it. Or is it one of those things that you just have to open it and replace it after a couple years. And would NT1 or Kryonaut be a better paste for this card?

Thanks in advance !!

Contrary to popular myth, TIM does not dry out. What happens is that over time due to thermal cycling the TIM layer pumps out and gets thinner. If you have good contact between the die and the cooler, there's no reason to change the paste. If your cooler plate is slightly warped or not as flat you may see issues over time. If your temps are stable, and good, I'd leave it alone. Personally, I've used IC Diamond. It's very thick, but resists pump out.

We recommend about 5 years after operation or if your card starts overheating/getting much higher temps than normal.

When you notice thermals going above normal levels than you're used too. Shouldn't have to for a few years though.

I would not change the paste until the temperature rises up rapidly + abnormally during heavy load.

I agree that 5 years is a good time to watch close

I have Corsair hardware and their iCue software watches everything so my EVGA RTX 2080 stays healthy

One friend noticed my card was 82C but the power used was 215W playing a demanding game at 4K. No problem.

4-5 years is pretty safe. All really depends on temps though.

I think every 3-5 years would be fine.

Continue to monitor your video card temp every few months. I really think a lot of die hard gamers will upgrade their GPUs long before the 5 year period anyway.
