I'll keep my fingers crossed, that this situation will hopefully end this year.

Well besides the silicon/semiconductor shortage, Ethereum moving to PoS(proof of stake) fairly soon and the overall cryptocurrency markets crashing.

I think if vendors start employing strict buying policies as well, it'll prevent scalpers from hoarding all the new supply. Limiting 1 GPU to a household, using some form of authorization process, or geofencing/blocking well known VPN addresses from entering queue. Also, money talks. If people collectively stop buying such inflated supply, it'll maybe stop scalpers from selling 200% above MSRP, but we all know that'll never happen.

So if GPU return to in stock, and it becomes impossible to buy storage, then we can blame miners?

I feel like this has been the case since I last built my computer in 2017 and it doesn't look like it'll stop anytime soon.

I don't think miners are still a problem, bitcoin fell almost 50%, Ethereum should be going proof of stake next year, and ROI is a lot higher now than a few months ago, but as long as scalpers are still at it I reckon it's gonna be some time before things return to normal.

2019-early 2020 was a great time to build a PC. I remember picking up my Asus ROG Strix 2060 Super for below msrp at the time and look at gpu prices now in awe.

Overall GPU demand will simply increase. In my estimation 2022 will be the year where manufacturing can catch up.

Imo prices aren't going down to msrp at least until the next gen cards drop, of course the prices will drop over the course of the year but I don't think the price drops will be as drastic as many think.

I am with ginger on this one. And also MSRP of the new cards will be a lot more than what MSRP used to be. Things have changed permanently…

Agreed. With inflation impact on the entire supply line the MSRP will probably increase a lot more. And, price increase gets worse the longer it takes to correct the supply problems.

No because the scalpers are a large part of it

This is the real problem. Scalpers have figured out how stupid gamers are and they’re not going to stop as long as they can make a profit. People keep paying so this problem is never going to go away and it gets even worse when the scalper gets enough money to just buy the GPUs directly from the manufacturer by the pallet. They get a bulk discount and can flip them for a higher price as they keep supplies artificially constrained. The only thing that will put an end to this is legislation aimed at scalping which won’t happen both because it’s insane government overreach and because GPUs aren’t essentials so all of us have to figure out our priorities and go from there. I got in to the 3070 Ti queue 2 hours after it opened for Elite members so hopefully I’ll have a GPU by December but this will probably be the last gaming machine I build. I dropped $1700 on this machine back in February and it’s sitting there with my old 780 Ti SC ACX…. Lesson learned. I will switch to consoles or find a new hobby.

I don't think gamers are really the majority of the folks buying these insanely overpriced cards. It's more the crypto kids trying to turn on a buck on the most absurd monetary scam of all time before it goes belly up.

Do you think that has to do with the drop in crypto prices or supply/demand balancing?

Looks like it is letting up a little recently. Seeing 3080s premiums come down a bit, but they demand is overwhelming for tech in general. We need out gadgets what can I say.

Bitcoin falls all the time. One drop isn't going to make all miners give up. Eth switching over will reduce demand to an extent, but it's not going to be anytime soon. There are still plenty of PoW coins out there to keep the miners busy.

When do you think the GPU demand will decrease and there will be enough supply to go around? I was talking to some people saying that the next halving(Crypto) will be when the market returns to normal. What do you think?

We can dream. But it's doubtful, mining is just a small part of a (by now) much larger problem industry-wide, the pandemic, and finally I think the "cumulative effect" of a LOT of consumers needing to upgrade after already having put it off previous years due to the shortages that already existed even back then, before the pandemic.

Agreed

Probably by year end. LHR cards should help. I see a lot of LHR cards on Craigslist selling for not that much over msrp.
