What's the Difference Between CPU Fan1 and PUMP?

I have a new Phanteks AIO liquid cooler on my equally-new EVGA Z590 FTW Wifi mobo.
 
I noticed that there is a dedicated PUMP Header connection I could be using but I ended up connecting to CPU Fan1 instead, took off the Smart Fan profile for it in the BIOS, and set its function to be 100% all the time.
 
Is this the correct way to go about it or should I use the dedicated PUMP connection instead?
 
The CPU Fan 1 is MUCH closer to the processor cable-wise which is why I went with it instead of the PUMP connection. Is the PUMP connection for more drastic liquid cooling?? The way the manual describes it, using the PUMP Header does not seem like a requirement for AIO solutions.

    Your fine using the cpu fan header. It's only using the pwm and tach signal from it for fan/pump speed. It used to be that some pumps got their power from the fan headers and most headers could only supply 1 Amp 12volts. The dedicated pump headers were normally 2 to 3 amps depending on how the board was designed. I'm pretty sure that evga board can do 2 amps on all headers. And nowadays pretty much all aio's and custom loop water pumps get their power from sata or molex connectors from psu.

    In case there is any doubt, both EVGA Z590 FTW and DARK have 2A fan headers and a 3A pump header.

    The main benefit these days (per Apollo's mention of most pumps having a separate power connector and the Motherboard header primarily there for PWM control) is the ability to operate the pump at a different speed than the fans on the radiators. Some people like to run the pump at 100% all the time, others like a ramp with temperature, but this allows separate control of the pump speed and radiator fans, whether you're using an AIO or custom loop.
