typically miners don't like 3090's. For 1/2 the money they can get a 3080 and it will generate 75-80% of the coins, meaning they will "break even" quicker and then start to go into profit. Since they don't really like the 3090's for that reason, I'd say the mental 3090 price is driven by non-mining people

These must be connected issues though. It would be unrealistic to expect that climbing prices of weaker cards wouldnt influence the higher end type, even if miners bought none. Scalpers of is the other side of the problem.

Let's hope at the end everything will take what they want...

It's more that for the 3090, miners aren't really the (primary) cause for sky high prices. For sure, I reckon there are probably some people out there mining with 3090's, but given the choice someone who's (seriously) into mining they wouldn't really touch them and prefer lower spec cards. Again, I've no real love (or hatred) of miners, but people are attributing "Ohh it's miners doing this, or miners doing that".....and in reality, while I do think they were a part of the problem in the early days, when the 3xxx series cards came out, ....miners are only a minor player here at the mo. It's just MASSIVE demand the likes of you and me wanting cards! :-)

Why? Well profitability of mining is just rubbish. You can check yourself with www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-rtx-3090/nvidia-rtx-3080 when you plug in a price of €0.15kwhr. Sure you could get a little better in some countries, or if you have solar power, but you get the idea.
3090 makes about €5.50/day and a 3080 makes €4.50/day. For now, let's just go with MSRP  - and ignore eBay, and let's assume you can get cards at MSRP. <laughs>

Considering that a 3090 retails for €1600-€2000 (I paid €1909 for my FTW3 off the queue), that means that you have to mine for €1908/€5.50 days = 346 days to break even. So you have to mine for nearly a year - just to make back your money that you paid for the card!! A 3080 it's a little better , call it a price of €800/€4.5 =  177 days. For sure - there's miners out there making money, but it's not all the sunshine and rainbows that people think for miners. Early days though before the complexity went up, mining was MASSIVELY benifical on the 3xxx seriers due to the performance per watt over the 2xxx series - but now, it's mostly us gamers on the warpath.

I tell you in about 12 months, there going to be some glut of 3xxx series cards on eBay !

A ton of options on the press release.
I wonder if EVGA really plans to release all those skus into the queues.

the Elite queue will start on 3rd June at 6am PDT (14:00 UTC or 15:00 Central Europe time). The Regular one starts 24H after the Elite, so the 4th June same time.
This info is based purely on US. the EU department still has no clue when our queue will start since the GPUs are not in site or still traveling. my suggestion is to try at the same time as US queue starts

I wonder how many people gonna be like:" Wut over 400€ more for just 2GB VRAM. Well let's enter the queue anyways and decide later. Maybe that queue moves faster"

Yeah, I had the exact same thinking. Really I'd like to have seen 16Gb on it. To be fair, 12Gb is good for like 95% of games - but some of the newer DX12 games have a higher memory footprint. Microsoft FlightSim is moving to DX12 and i know that will require more RAM, how much it "needs" verses "likes" though is hard to say.
Still leaving the memory thing aside, the queues would seem to be the _only_ way in getting a card at anything close to MSRP. Course the enternal wait on the queues has it's own frustration. :-)

Define in site or still travelling? EU GPUs don't travel anywhere - they are shipped from Taiwan.

Also, for anyone too lazy, I did the conversions so feel free to mark them down:
6 AM PDT is the same as:
2 PM BST(UK, Portugal?)
3 PM CEST(Most of Western Europe, from Spain to Poland, everything in between, Norway and Sweden)
4 PM EEST(Baltics, Finland, Eastern Balkans, Greece)

Ahh the good old UTC=GMT debacle. So in summertime UTC != BST (British summer time), so 14:00 UTC is actually 15:00 BST (or 16:00 european continent)
If it was winter time, before the clocks go forward, what EVGA posted would be true, but I think they got that wrong there. If it's truly at 6am PDT, that's 13:00 UTC which is 14:00 BST or 15:00 European time.
Course if they meant that it would open at 14:00 UTC then that's actually 15:00 BST (uk) or 16:00 European time. So it maybe an hour later than what they posted. Who knows what they meant. :-)

Seems like the release schedule is just slower on these. I wouldn't keep your hopes super up on this since production will (probably?) be super focused on the Ti line now

This is the issue with using that information really, there's no guarantee EU queue will open at the same time as US. There's also been no update on whether the EU branch of EVGA has better stock or if it's still the same as before where there's been maybe like 10 in the past year

Looked into it more, I think the other person made the mistake of UTC == BST, whilst release being 13:00 UTC. EVGA said 6AM PDT(found no reference to any other timezone), which in turn is 13:00 UTC, 14:00 UTC+1(thus BST)... Timezones always get the best of me tho.. Hoping my times are correct :D

an user called the EVGA german branch and they said that they still haven't seen a single 3080ti/3070ti so they're probably travelling towards their location or still not shipped yet.
for what matters this is just a sign that EU queue might start later than the official launch date, and this is good news so we can try the Founders Speedrun without worrying about losing precious seconds on the Elite Queue

I think ultimately it'll be at 14:00 BST (uk) or 15:00 European, but my own advice to people is no harm to swing by the website and have a look earlier. Wouldn't at all surprise me if they opened things earlier/later than they say.
They've not exactly had a stellar history here on the opening up of queues without problems, have they?

Well a 3080ti from evga is still cheaper than a 3080 or even a 3070 from local retailers.
I'll sign up for every model, get whichever comes first and cancel the rest.
Xc3 should be around 1300 with tax. There are greedy retailers here asking that much for a 3070

1. most likely retailers aren't at fault, as most sources say it's the distributors charging the inflated prices in the first place.
2. 1300 is dreaming. 1200 is MSRP, the prices on EVGA store are already above MSRP, now if you add VAT, you're looking more in the range of 1450-1500 for a bottom end model, imo.

if the cheapest model is ~1350usd that would be around 1100euro
If you add tax, shipping and what not,it ends up around 1400euro.It's steep but considering the current situation it's not that bad.

MSRP is MSRP, euros or usd doesn't really apply for whatever reason... so the base model is over 1200 eur pre tax and shipping.

Following the same logic, expecting the lowest model to be ~610-620, including VAT(20% or more in most countries), ending up at 730+.. and this is excluding transport(I have no clue how much this is)... Oof :(
That's my estimation of how much it will cost... And I don't like it.

Re: What's going on with EU and 3080's? 2021/06/01 14:51:24 (permalink)
Good Evening, I promissed a end of the week post but technicall dificulties prevented that.
To make amends I am expanding the original post. But before that, the mandatory introduction.
So, those who have been here for some time are aware that there is a running joke about vacines and GPUs, I can report that I am now part of the "got the shot first" group, a bit of a surprise because I am not that old yet, the call was also done with 24 hours to prepare. The whole process was very straightfoward and very organized, got out in less than a hour with the second shot already sheduled. Got no bad reactions so far, lookign foward to clear out this item on the bucket list. Ironic that this would happen in the eve of the "Ti Onslaught", I supose it's destiny's of saying "be prepared"

Rather then just slap the list I decided (against my own judgement) to make a small month-recap, it's an experiment, if I find that helps I may continue this in the future. A quick reminder that this data are self-reports, please do not read these as "drops" because it has been clear for some time that most people served by the queue will not report back, we have no idea how many people squeezed into minutes or seconds and how many cards EVGA is delivering at each wave.
Here it goes, the EU May Recap.
The KP joined the list but no emails were reported.
4 lines moved this month: 3090 FTW3 Ultra; 3080 XC3 Ultra; 3070 XC3 Ultra; 3060 XC Gaming. As usual the cards that were "silent" for longer moved more, namely the 3090 moved a couple more days and the 3080 moved a few hours, the 3070 and 3060 having more reports moved just minutes and seconds respectively. The 3060 continues to crawl and it's clear at this point that the queue has been overflooded, either by hungry humans or something else, if you are on this queue, be prepared to wait more until supply picks up.
This week marks the first of the Ti releases, I have added those SKUs as placeholders by using EVGA's front-page announcement as an indication that at least those 4 will be opened, if more queues open I will add to the list.
End of report for May, here is how things stand for the European Queue at the end of May

Sir Frigorifero
and this is good news so we can try the Founders Speedrun without worrying about losing precious seconds on the Elite Queue

Where you can buy Founders Edition in Europe, I would love to know.

Please use my Associate Code at your checkouts for up to 10% discounts on all your EVGA purchases: VMQIDQNAOEU7BSY

Official nvidia page.
Based on where you live some shops regularly drop founders edition cards, mostly LDLC.
