Would love in purchasing a ‘Z690 Dark Kingpin’ and perhaps just before the new Z790 generation will be hitting the shelves in a few months time. Was wondering what it will cost or come down too from its current very lofty and or $829 mega pricing?

IMO, unlikely to impact the price

though EVGA has offered discounts on many GPUs last few months .... you just have to keep an eye open for any type of Sale

Thanks for your response in kind! It was just that the ‘Z690 Classified’ is still listed at AMAZON for $630. Here on our EVGA site it’s listed now at $450 which for me being a terrific buy! With this in mind I was hoping that the 'Z690 Kingpin' would be lowered in price as well in the coming months. At around $500 (reduced sales price) for the Kingpin I may readily spring for another brand new or separate build for my snowbird home in Rancho Mirage, CA.

When a New KingPin MB is launched, then there is more likely to be a Sale of the current MB

WE never know when EVGA will Start or End any discounts/ sales ... until EVGA actually posts them

I ordered a Z690 Classified just this past Friday. At $450, it was hard to pass up. Is there any particular reason why you’re wanting a Z690 Dark aside from aesthetics? From what I understand, the Classified is a chopped down version of the Dark and meant for use as a daily driver, but still features a lot of what the Dark has to offer. The Dark, on the other hand, was engineered towards hardcore/extreme overclocking.

Thanks for your follow-up! Yes indeed the ‘Z690 Classified’ was a good buy at $450. Having two small homes and one being a summer retreat in CA, I opted for the Classified as well and as daily driver so to speak. It was originally between it or a Z690 Asus Hero. I found the EVGA MB products so much more robust, higher quality build, 10 PCB layers and in general a lot more special than the Asus MB’s including their 'Extreme' version. So after the latest generation of Hero’s having had a reverse capacitor and related circuitry problems (mass production QC issues) clearly evidenced that Asus is starting to dropping the ball and thus me going with EVGA (for a first time MB purchase) became a given. I also felt that ASUS dropping the QC aspects especially within their higher-end MB segment costing $650 plus was inexcusable. Whereby the EVGA MB’s I thought were more of a special and selected smaller run, unrivaled quality, top of the line RMA services and technical assistance. As to the Z690 Kingpin I am hoping that the pricing will come down much further ($500?) and it being hard to pass-up for my primary home in the Mountains of WA. Indeed you hit the nail on the head and the Kingpin for me is all about aesthetics. Just like my blond girlfriend who has assets which are uniquely visible and pleasing to the eye. And she can walk the walk and talk the talk. I simply cannot help myself as to whatever else she has going for herself. All of that stuff just simply fades away in the heat of the night! Beauty clearly is in the eye of the beholder!

The Dark sure is a nice-looking board, but I ultimately chose the Classified for functionality rather than looks. Plus, I already spent $470 on a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master that the Classified will be replacing. I’ve had more issues with the Gigabyte board than I anticipated coming from a Z390 Aorus Master. Just couldn’t justify going with the Dark. And as far as Asus is concerned, I understand your thinking when it comes to QC. I also bought two Asus Z690 boards, and they’ve each had their own issues. One even had to be RMA’d due to two dead RAM slots. Here’s to hoping that supply chain and QC issues normalize once again and soon.

PSA: The Z690 Dark is currently on sale for $700, and it looks like I bought the Classified at a good time. It went from $450 to $500.

Agree with this. EVGA motherboards seem to have a limited production run compared with most other brands for each generation. There’s no telling when stocks may dry up or if pricing will decrease further. I also used my remaining EVGA bucks to buy the Classified board. Since their Bucks and Associate programs are going bye-bye, I’d get the Dark board now using them, that’s if you have any EVGA bucks.

Yes...the Dark Kingpin has come on sale much earlier than I thought! But still in times like these I am holding-off and to jumping at my earlier hoped or quoted $500 or less. With the new hardware generation practically on our doorstep I would think that I may be able to grab a 'Dark' below $500 by September or October? I thought that the now discounted price of $700 is still a big reach. Which of course makes we wonder what EVGA will be charging for the upcoming Z790 Dark? Probably close to $1000 or more? After all ASUS is listing their present Z690 EXTREME already at $1100. And in my opinion ASUS does not even come close to any of the EVGA MB standards! Some would say that it is foolish to buying any generation specific hardware just months before the new MB’s rush-in! But personally I do not think that even with being 2 or 3 generations behind will not be the end of the world or having a major impact. Life or my reality could be much worse than this!

Note:
Wishful thinking had me hoping a few days back that EVGA would perhaps offer their existing ‘tried and true’ customers a very special deal or 'first grabs' to their outgoing generation premium products. For example to anyone that has spent over $2000 (or threshold) in the past 30-months and that those would be receiving a special recognition opportunity. This could further develop into customers speciying and staying with all EVGA products for their new builds given the proper discounted incentive. I further think that these kinds of customers are what EVGA should be fostering. A 35%-40% discount across the board this late in the hardware season may not be unreasonable. Thoughts?

Considering there’s a B-stock 2080 Ti FTW3 (yes, previous gen) going for $1360, I sincerely doubt you’ll see a Z690 Dark going for $500. Not only that, the EVGA Amazon store is selling a Z490 Dark board for $600, and an X299 for nearly $400. With that in mind, I doubt the Z690 Dark will ever go for less than $650 during future sales. $700 seems like a good deal for it. Otherwise, it would be nice if EVGA had a clearance section that catered to Elite members first like they do with the 24-hour early access for new releases. Would give more justification for being an Elite member especially since they’re doing away with the Associate program. And yeah, companies like Asus seem to have CEOs who have taken to drugs with the prices they’re charging these days. From my point of view, Asus is living off the company name nowadays, and doesn’t provide the quality products they used to. Personally, I’ve only ever had issues with Asus stuff ranging from motherboards to a monitor and a router.

If you're not averse to other brands the MSI Z690 Unify-X is a really nice board, I have it and the Tachyon and sold my Apex since it was the worst one out of the 3.  Dark is too expensive imo so I didn't get one. (note I have every other dark board: X79, X299, SR-3, Z390, Z490, Z590, X570 but I did get most on sale)

TBH if you're looking to wait until then it will be worthwhile to see how Z690 performs with the new generation CPU if it is worthwhile to still buy one.

That’s something that I’ve been curious about since as rumor has it, Intel 13th gen will be supported by Z690. Rumors aside, all motherboards have gotten a lot more expensive compared with what they used to cost even just 5 years ago, so it’s not just EVGA unfortunately.
