A 3090 will be a huge upgrade for me and I’m just wondering what everyone is planning on driving with these new GPUs.

I am lucky to have a couple nice monitors. My wife games too so we can buy twice as much stuff haha! We have an LG 38GL950G. 3840x1600 and 160hz with GSync, hoping to push near the limits of my monitor's refresh rate. And we just bought a 65 inch LG CX after our 3 year old TV randomly died. So I am pumped for a nice 3080 to push these screens.

I already get a solid 4k60 most of the time with a fast-ish 2080, so I'm thinking I'd only go 3080 if I upgraded to an LG 48" OLED with 4K 120hz gsync over HDMI 2.1, but I'm not thinking the 3080 will actually be any faster in most DX11 and DX12 games that I play. So I'm thinking I'll wait this one out and get a 3080 Super / Ti next year along with the OLED.

That's a sensible decision, 3080 Ti @ $1000 or $1200 with near 3090 performance and maybe 20GB of VRAM is a near certainty, it's just a matter of time. 6 months?

Asus PG279Q and PB279 here, might eventually pick up a fast refreshing 4K with HDMI 2.1 if I manage to snag a 3090. I'm looking forward to having 4K high fps this gen.

I'd rather have a 3080 Ti with 11/12th GA102 cut down and 11GB ram, I think that's the next logical step in the product stack. Maybe $800.

VR is demanding, I'm seeing 10.5GB of video memory usage in Half: Life Alyx on average in the Valve Index. Seeing ~9GB in a few titles on the curved ultrawide 3440x1440, Shadow of War, The Division 2 and others. The next gen consoles will have more system memory so it's axiomatic that PC ports of those titles will require more VRAM. 8 and 10GB isn't future proof, it may be enough for current titles as of this writing but 2-3 years from now people with 8 and 10 GB may find themselves wishing they had more. Every 80 Ti card I've owned to date began pushing the video memory limit right before upgrading, the 780 Ti being not enough within only 1-2 years of ownership. 980 Ti lasted a good while with it's 6GB, but then that wasn't enough. Now I'm seeing full memory utilization in VR and 9 out of 11GB in a few titles at only 3440x1440. See: GTX 970 and 980, when 3.5 and 4GB was just barely enough for the titles of that generation, 3 years later and that's not enough VRAM. This is just one of the reasons I'm opting for the ridiculously expensive 3090, that and I'm tired of upgrading mid or late cycle. I am an enthusiast though, I know it's not a compelling value proposition, VR is incredibly demanding, tired of having to turn settings down just to run AC: Competizione or SkyrimVR (UVRE via Wabbajack) @ 80 FPS to avoid reprojection.

I have an LG OLED tv from 2016, 30“ old NEC reference monitor, and a cintiq pro 24. I’m looking for a dedicated gaming monitor for this, preferably 4K hdr over 60hz. Does anyone have any recommendations? I seem to only come across affiliate link top ten lists... There was mention of a new LG model coming out, but that might not be until November.

For the 3090? Why limit yourself to 60 Hz and 16:9? Dude curved ultrawide at 120 Hz is where it's at, I will take that over flat 16:9 at 60 Hz any day: My current UW panel, AW3418DW: https://youtu.be/0afwE6GVLQw 4K 16:9 vs Ultrawide: https://youtu.be/Rx-W58G2-Ew

No HDR, for that X35 or PG35VQ are both 3440x1440 FALD panels worth looking into, but they are pricey, $2500 or so. Samsung's Odyssey G9 claims it has HDR, but it's not FALD. AW3418DW isn't new, I got mine back in early 2018, it is IPS and does look really good though, has backlight bleed but that comes with the territory with IPS. If I were to upgrade I would spend a lot of time looking at the PG35VQ and Odyssey G9.

I'm looking to grab a RTX 3090 for my current main screen which is an Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ. The other two screens next to this PG27UQ on each side are the 24" Asus 1080p 60hz screens. (Right-Click to open image in a new tab to view this image)

I agree on the ultrawide. I would rather play games in ultrawide with about 3/4 the pixels of 4k at higher refresh rates. I'll use the LG Oled for games that are only 16:9 but it's mainly for consoles.

Shield Wulf I agree on the ultrawide. I would rather play games in ultrawide with about 3/4 the pixels of 4k at higher refresh rates. I'll use the LG Oled for games that are only 16:9 but it's mainly for consoles.
You know what they say, once you go Ultrawide you don't go back!

I will be driving my Samsung c49RG90 Super Ultrawide. I had GTX 1660 Ti, then bought this 49" ultrawide so I upgraded to a 2070 Super 9 months ago. The monitor easily overclocks to 144Hz from 120, so I would love to be able to drive the 5120x1440 @ 120Hz+. I'm really hoping a 3080 will allow me to truly enjoy the best this monitor has to offer. I can't wait! I'm super excited for this release. I still remember back in the 90's the first time I paid $700 for a top tier video card. It was outdated 6 months later and I swore I'd never pay that much for a video card again. My last two builds were SLI so not spending that much for video cards didn't last long.

You might want to spring for the 3090 if you can swing it at that resolution. You might just be capable of 120 FPS at 5120x1440 (extrapolating here, I see around 90 FPS in demanding games at 3440x1440 with overclocked 2080 Ti which itself is still around 15% slower than 3080 at default clocks (25% overclock) going by the Doom Eternal, Control and Shadow of the Tomb Raider 3080 performance videos Digital Foundry has). If you can similarly overclock the 3080 by 25% then it should be around 40-50% faster than overclocked 2080 Ti but 5120x1440 is 50% more resolution so yeah, you will be getting what I'm currently getting in some games with RT and DLSS off: 90 FPS or so in demanding titles. I don't think a 3080 is up to snuff for 120 FPS @ 5120x1440 with all settings maxed. Doom Eternal should be no problem as 5120x1440 is still like 12% less resolution than 3840x2160 but it's really close. 8,292,000 pixels vs 7,372,000. The 3080 is shown running Doom Eternal at 150 FPS at 4K but that's a fairly optimized game. I don't know, you may have to turn some settings down in some titles. 90 FPS min is still very smooth, I think it's a call youre going to have to make. I would go 3090 if you can swing it, youre basically trying to do 4K @ 120 FPS.
