What is going on? Why is the GPU I stepped up to 1 year ago $79 more expensive?

I'm genuinely confused. 1 year ago I entered the queue for the 3080 FTW3 10G-P5-3897-KR at the $809 price point. (I believe it was that, or $819)
That price was the price I was promised when I had to spend $20 for the extended warranty, and whenever I looked at my products page and checked the status of the queue that was the price shown.
So I saved that much money knowing I'd have to pay it, plus tax and shipping. But now I'm being told the product is $889 and has been changed to the 10G-P5-3897-KL EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3
Why is this happening? Is it just a glitch or what? Just confused, not trying to complain but after waiting a year this is pretty lame.

Unfortunately, this is economics 101. The laws of supply and demand. I paid more than the initial total of my 3080 FTW3 Ultra by the time my Step Up was a go. I think it was well worth it compared to some scalper scumbag on eBay. This card is more than 200% what you are paying and literally, NO tech distributor is selling at MSRP. It sucks but it's not EVGAs fault. The GPU shortage has cost them as well and back to economics you pass the overhead on to the consumer. They have a company to run and keep in the black so the prices have increased accordingly to ensure their financial survival. Imagine if you worked at EVGA with all these shortages. I would be worried that my job was in jeopardy. I've seen other manufacturers who sell lesser GPUs exploiting the market and EVGA actually falls into a very select few that seem to actually go the extra mile for the customer. They did for me and I've been working in IT since 1993. 3DFX Voodoo 1 OG lol. The point is I can honestly say EVGA has impressed me in this GPU shortage. They sent my Step Up at the peak of the shortage and it's worth every cent. Best Regards

No matter where you go..There you are.

The price the site showed you was an estimate when you signed up for your step up.  It was not a promise or contract so that is subject to change.  This is why I think EVGA doesn't take you money at that point because then they would be locked into that price rather than the msrp at the time of step up.  The price changed for the gpu you requested and evga held the price for those before the cutoff date earlier this year.

It's unfortunate that you had to pay more for your gpu, but atleast they offer the step up which allowed you to continue to use the gpu you bought while you waited for your spot to be called through the program.  It does suck, but I've done 2 step ups and appreciate the program and what EVGA does to support their users.

Tariffs hit back in January, and EVGA did everything they could to offset the price, but tariffs still raised the cost of the GPU’s many months ago, and EVGA isn’t going to absorb the costs that are placed on them, so it goes onto the total cost of the product.

As I recall they honored the price for those who got the cards by April..but then raised the prices ...as it should be..they shouldn't
eat the cost of the increase .....Imo.

I don't think price increase has anything to do with Trump since we are hit by this raise in EU aswell.

That being said, I guess a smart move from EVGA would be to update step up cost for those still in queue, that would make more sense than waiting for months with a price showing on step up page, and then the day your step up is finally getting addressed, they ask for more money.

Everyone who follows GPU availability knows that price have increased, but this way of doing things can feel like trickery. Step up is still a bargain consumer wise, I never see 3080 FTW3 for less than 1400€ whenever they are sold by retailers, so good for us. But still EVGA should show what you are going to have to pay for step up.

There are many things that cause price increases. It is well known that parts manufacturers and companies like TSMC are raising prices.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA
