On Feb. 18, 2018, I upgraded from a 1050Ti to a 1060 (both EVGA). It was a planned upgrade when I built my PC in a hurry last year RIGHT before the Cryptocurrency craze. Since I refuse to even look into the used market, one of my friends was helping me by watching trends. He telling me that if I didn't jump on at least a 1050Ti, I was basically SOL. So I did. (I only had enough for the graphics card to spend and I didn't get paid until the next week, so I jumped at the right time, I guess. That next week I checked out my local Best Buy. Only a single GT 1030 and a bunch of AMD cards. Ghost town. (Man I hate crazes.) Now that I was able to snag a GTX 1060 off of Amazon for the few minutes it was available as the Powerlink bundle for slightly cheaper I got the card I initially wanted. The GTX 1050Ti is really the GPU that could, turning out more than admirable results in 1080p. Thanks to the GPU being late on shipping and handling on Amazon's side, they granted me a requested 10% discount on the full purchase price; $40, which was a pleasant surprise. After tax and shipping the price was roughly $420. You do the math (the Powerlink was $20 in the bundle), it was a steal. Now moving on to part two of my... computer diary... if you wanna call it that... When I got the 1050Ti, the first thing that popped into my head was: Upgrade route... WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH A LEFT OVER PART? I don't want it to get damaged in storage or leave it to be unloved. First thing I thought of was my best friend. (She's literally my hero, so a dude like me is obliged.) She loves video games, she is always up to learning new things, she wants a gaming PC. I am going to give her my 1050Ti for nothing just so we have an easier way to get the foot in the door and a cost measure to avoid especially after the crypto-craze. Then I am going to stand on the sidelines and teach her how to build the PC. I am not going to do the work, I will only answer questions. She's smart. She'll get it. Also- I think she'll have a much better time in the case because her hands are smaller than mine... Every build has that problem for me. I'm going to shell out money to get her more parts to be able to complete the build, even though I don't make much spending money for myself, but this is quality time and I am just really excited to get this off the ground since I planned for this to be done in November last year for her birthday. Since I am really happy with the EVGA parts in my PC working as intended for almost a year now, I plan on going for as many EVGA parts as possible. I haven't experienced anything but greatness from this company. TL;DR: Walking down memory lane about my computer, plan on giving my GTX 1050Ti to my best friend for free so she can build her PC because I got my 1060 I wanted initially, I'm teaching her how to build the PC without holding her hand and making her feel dumb. (Because she's not.) -Krom

That was one of my ideas, I just don't have storage and I'd rather have my card end up in good hands.

Thanks for not locking the thread like other community forum moderators... (I am actually really attracted to this forum layout because it seems similar to the forum engine on a website I really liked back in 2010-2012, then they muffed it up.)

I have a growing pile of them now. :/ But usually if the card still has some value I sell it here on the market place.

I put one here and there in builds I do for family members or friends. Beyond that, I have a whole collection of GPU's from almost every generation back to the 6000 series. My office cabinets and closet looks like a used PC parts store...

Sounds like it's time for a sale!!!!! Haha I usually try to help friends out first. It is a good idea to have a back-up for testing and a back-up.

You're right. I know I probably should, and should have done so when the stuff was more relevant (some GPU's still are). Not sure if I'm lazy about going through the whole selling process or what...lol

I took my old RX480 and built a PC for me to chug around to LAN parties. I don’t exactly like moving my watercooled beast because that's really heavy.

Good to see I'm not the only one... All my parts including GPU's, mobo's, CPU's and everything else, I have the original boxes with any software, posters, etc they all came with. I think the only hardware I don't have the boxes for are my monitors I no longer use.

This is always a good idea since often times when a problem happens you will want another card to get the system running again while you do an RMA. It also helps you figure out if the problem is the video card or monitor or even a power supply that is going out since it's odd for two video cards to have an issue.

Backup cards are good, if you don't have a bunch around. Or set it up as a PhysX specific card in a dual-card setup.
Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding. I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

I sell mine first and use the money to pay for part of the new ones. My last upgrade was three R9 290s to a single GTX1080ti. Old cards sold for 600 with water blocks and the new card was $850.
The best part is my new card is selling for around 1,500-2,000 now.
