They're saying that number of cores and shaders(I think) are doubled. Looks like performance could be at least 2 times of the 3000 series. Some said 2.5x.
What are your thoughts about that. Since the 3000 series is so new we just bought a 3000 series card.
I'm starting to really consider selling my 3080Ti FTW Ultra Gaming. Then buying a cheaper 2070 keeping it for a year. And then trying to buy a RTX 4080 equivalent at MSRP. In a year which would be roughly 180% the performance of the 3080Ti at least if specs are correct.  Then keep that for 2 GPU gens.

I always skip a gen, for GPU upgrades.   I went from an EVGA 1080SC to a 3090FE.   I'll wait for the 5xxx series for my next hop....

Define "they". Is this speculation, or actual specs that were leaked?

Right, but I am thinking get a cheap card for a year, then buy a 4080 equivalent in a year and have almost 2 times the performance like e.g. avg. 100 fps to 180 fps, and I can wait till 027 to upgrade again! lol

Supposedly actual specs as shown by several popular PC/tech Yutubers.  I'll try to get some links for them today later.

Moved this to the General Discussion forum, as the 3000 series forum is for 3000 series cards.

I also usually skip a generation. I replaced my two 1080Tis with this 3080 FTW3 and while I have not had any real issues I have had fan speed glitches Etc. I therefore may go with the 4000 series when they are available but after the  (still ongoing) mess with the 3000 series I will wait more than 6 months to see how things are going with them before I buy.
I have a second computer that still has a 1080Ti in it and I am absolutely not getting a 3000 series for it.
For me, while performance is a factor, RELIABILITY and QUALITY of the product are key. There is no way I want to waste my time messing with all the issues so many of you have had to go through with this 3000 series mess.

You are seriously considering selling your 80 Ti based on nothing but rumors about performance increases that would be unlike anything we've ever seen on hardware at least 12 months out with a resurgence in COVID variants that will almost certainly wipe out any recovery in production/supply chain and potentially hammer it worse so you can run a 2070 and then try to purchase a 4000 series that may be even harder to get than the 3000 is many months after release or scalping one for like 3x MSRP?

Come on. You are overreacting on speculation during one of the most volatile times for the chip market (and most other markets, for that matter) in history. I think you need to reconsider.

I would not make decisions based on click bait.  Wait until NVIDIA or AMD have something to say, then you might be able to make an informed decision.

What @GTXMan stated above is valid and it ought to give you pause for thought.  Also, you may not see either new series until Q4 2022 and a lot can happen between now and the end of next year.

I am not happy about it. Whatever happened to better performance using less power?

Think they will be power hogs at between 450-500 watts... they'll all have to have hybrid coolers that are on 360mm radiators.

Overall I'm not even going to think about next gen GPUs until next year. The semiconductor shortage is killing GPU supplies right now and hopefully in a year's time things will be much better for supply.

First off generations are two years and sometimes longer so really I wouldn't think we would see anything until next September at earliest. As for performance gains really I wouldn't take these numbers from the first post as anything close to realistic since the 3080Ti is only about 55% faster then the 2080 which was about the same MSRP. It was one of the biggest gains we have seen ever from generation to generation though as normally it's about 18-30%.

I'm concerned about efficiency. Speculations indicated higher wattage, but time will tell for sure!

This is so true, and a vicious cycle I've fallen victim to before. It's magnified now with the GPU shortage and the difficulty I've had in finding one. I cannot bring myself to pay scalpers and their insane prices, so just waiting until the 4000 series comes is a tempting proposition. But I was looking at building a 2000 series PC a while back and again decided to wait for the 3000 lol. It's unlikely that the 4000 series cards will be any easier to get your hands on so the waiting patten may begin again for some people. If you manage to get an EVGA card and keep its warranty up to date you may at least be able to make an attempt at using the step up program if you want the latest and greatest card.

It's also probably worth pointing out this far before launch they could be using products made to draw far more power then the retail product ever would for testing. Better to be able to flood the card with power and not need it then to not have the option for testing. Later when they know the exact wattage they can always lock down the specs.

What do I think? I think humoring speculation is mental masterbation. I've always wondered why people humor random opinions, hopes and dreams as anything other than a waste of time. When we have actual evidence of specs, I'll be a lot more interested.

I'm not thinking much about the 4000 series seeing as we're currently in the midst of a seemingly endless shortage that means I'll probably never get one either way.

I'll just stick with the 3060 I managed to grab off of ebay for a price I could live with and stop worrying about the daily nightmare of trying to keep up with drops that get bought out by bots, shuffles/raffles that go to the same 12 people every day, and queues that never, ever end. I'll upgrade again in another 5 years when they've sorted this out finally. Or maybe they never will, which is also fine.
