If they have 970 FTW+ in stock, that is what you will get back. They only provide an upgrade if they do not have stock for what you returned. Getting what you paid for isn't a bad* thing, so that will be good. If you receive an upgrade, that will be better. Getting what you paid for will not be bad.

Well Evga apparently isn't making 900 series cards anymore, at least that's what I can tell from the website. I would guess a low end 1060 3gb

if he has the 4Gb 970 then it will most likely be the 6Gb 1060.. Im only going of what i got for my 970 4Gb. It may be different for others..

Everytime I have sent my 970 back I have gotten a 970.  This last time was especially frustrating when I paid for advanced RMA and the 970 card I got constantly overheated and shut down the computer, and VISA was kind enough to make me lose money on the exchange rate on the "refund" of the advanced RMA charges, and won't fix it for some unknown reason.  40 dollars gone and hopefully my replacement 970 tomorrow will be working.  I only did advanced RMA because my son needed a working card now and I hated him having one of my 1080's.  The money loss is no fault of EVGA, it's just VISA being jerks.

I sent in 980GTX. Got 980GTX back. Less coil whine, but still coil whine. Done with this now.

That's awesome, a little more power and less power consumption. Being a new card is just icing on the cake

I send my Titan X in, I get either a worse titan x, or one that works for a few days and then starts overheating like you saw, and I am forced to use msi afterburner until it finally gets too bad to use anymore and the cycle repeats itself.
Used pos titan x after another.
