Hello there,

I'm using a GTX 760 2GB and I got gifted a Steam Game called The Forest and it's an unoptimised piece of trash. Even on the lowest settings it forces my GPU to go past 80c, if I kept played for a few more seconds it would got even hotter, probably 90c. I tried asking about it on their steam forums but as you'd expect "It's your GPU, it's out of date, nothing wrong with the game" really? how can my GPU not run this game if the game's Recommended GPU is a GTX 560?

So back to the point of the thread. I haven't updated my Drivers in awhile, probably since 12-14-2016 when I updated them for better Optimisation on Dark Souls 3. I was thinking maybe updating my Drivers will help with "The Forest". What Drivers do you recommend? I'm using driver 376.33.

I doubt updating your video drivers would make much difference. If the game is rendering at high framerate, enable vsync or some other framerate cap to lower GPU load. Blow the dust backwards out of your video card's heatsink. Consider replacing your video card's heatsink thermal paste since it is likely dried out and not working effectively anymore.

The Game was capped at 60fps with the lowest settings, so probably the game is that badly unoptimised. I've been playing Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain for the last 2 weeks, the temps stayed at 60c, only time it went into the 70s is when they were a high intense cutscene with alot of Fire. Don't think the Thermal Paste has dried up or the card is full of dust. I even played on Payday 2 and checked the temps on that, 60c while playing the same stealth map I tested a year or 2 ago, same temp.

    MrSharpy,

Sounds like a game issue, but I would recommend upgrading your driver to the most current (390.77) anyways.  I'm running this version with my GTX 770 SC.

I'm assuming your running EVGA Precision XOC to give you additional control over your GPU?

I'll give that driver a go then, also I used MSI Afterburner for my Fan Control. Just had a look in that topic I made in The Forest Steam Forums, just more people defending a poorly made game. Probably doesn't run that hot for them due to probably having GTX 1080s and water cooling Haha.

Checking out their bug report forum, looks like they have a lot of graphics related problems (to include recent and ongoing issues) ... not a good trend for a 3+ year old game.

I'd also recommend doing a clean installation of the graphics driver.  Might also be worth uninstalling/reinstalling The Forest afterwards as well.

    Hope it works out!

Did a clean install of the 390.77 drivers, but didn't make a difference. Just a broken game. shame

The game is pretty poor. All you can do is a clean installation of current drivers. PUBG is the same way. Not Optimized, and the game runs like trash.

Yup, I even opened up my GPU(only the plastic shell) to clean the fan and grills. There was only a really thin layer of Dust so I thought to myself "No point changing the thermal paste, there's hardly any dust, the paste is probably fine". GPU fully cleaned and it only made like 1c-2c temp difference when I tested it on The Phantom Pain. The Steam keyboard warriors still defending it, even though people have said they had the same problems with it. Buy a better GPU they keep saying, I really don't see the point, paying £200 on a new GPU(EVGA GTX 1050Ti 4GB) just so it uses less power to run the game, just so it doesn't get that hot is not really worth it. How about instead of expecting to have a High End PC to run a low end game, Optimise the bloody thing.
