Wondering What Benchmark Score people are Seeing Now with GTX 1080 in Firestrike and Timespy and what Driver are you using? Are you Overclocked or Stock? Trying to Decide which is holding me Back GTX 1080 or my I7 4790k these are Stock clocks. Later i am going to run these same benchmarks with the two year old driver and see which has better performance Cpu@ 4.000Mhz Turbo 4.399 Mhz Gpu Core 1,974Mhz, Memory 1251Mhz DDR3 1600Mhz Windows 10 Pro HDR off These were all Ran today Driver 425.31 Time Spy 6971 Firestrike 16,755 Firestrike Extreme 9755 Firestrike Ultra 5354 Newest Driver Hotfix 430.53 Timespy 6966 Firestrike 16767 Firestrike Extreme 9753 Firestrike Ultra 5386

Your GTX 1080 is without a doubt what's holding you back. I manage a french database of 3DMark results on a popular french forum, here is the extract of the GTX 1080 users results for firestrike (click the image below to enlarge): The full database is avariable here (in french): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dWCV7QbJrKBR62dLVwcxUSkm8vlyapzMWL1-lQljoxM/edit#gid=321296912 So your result is correct, although in the low range. You could maybe try an older driver (375.95). If you wanna get more GFX performance you need to upgrade your GTX 1080 to a 1080ti or a 2080/2080ti :)

Holding you back from what? I think you know 3DMark is heavily GPU biased for most of its tests. What are you looking to accomplish? Your bench scores were MoE between drivers.

To bcavnaughSo your I7 is better overall gaming then the I9? or just in these benchmarks and from your Scores it makes me think alot more about a 1080ti it seems like your using drivers from last year is that on purpose or just that you upgraded to RTX? My CPU seems to be at 50 to 60% most times but at 2k or 4k i use all of the GPU

No, it is more that it is running 5200MHz over the rest. I missed yours was Not a Ti Card, Sorry. But also the Benchmarks Love Cores and the More you have the Better. No they are the same as when I ran the Benchmarks, my RTX Cards are in different rigs.

Honestly I'm thinking the next step should be a 1080ti. When I use bottleneck calculator it looks like its the best card I can run . A 2080ti will cause a 34% bottleneck. Not to mention a 1080ti should allow 120fps. Which is like a 30% increase.

You're in a tough spot. Clearly for gaming a more powerful GPU would give you more FPS and allow you to run higher resolutions at more FPS which makes your processor less of an issue or 'bottleneck relative to the GPU. The other option is the GTX 2080, which is similar in performance to the 1080 Ti. I have a hard time recommending, if you are buying new, going with the older generation even though the 1080 Ti is a great GPU.

What resolution are you gaming at?
I think at this point I'd just save up and when you got enough cash fire off the top of the line latest i9 cpu and high end graphics card.
In 6 months there might be a newer card release..
Yeah 2080ti is what you want today for the most difference from the 1080.
I would pair it with something running atleast high 4gigs to 5ghz 6 plus core.
9900k is the sweet spot at 8 cores and pretty easy to hit 5ghz min on all 8 cores with good cooling.. think water.
Sure you can buy a used 1080ti or a 2080 for more basically the same but with rtx features.. but if your still at 1080 res dont bother. 1440 120-165hz or 4k then yeah 1080ti/2080 would be ok.
I would just go back to gaming and save up and come back a year and read up on what's the best for gaming.
Intel i9 9900K @ 5.2Ghz Single HUGE Custom Water Loop. personally if you could, just get a better CPU bcavnaugh
I think your card is still running fine but maybe a new Motherboard/CPU/Memory
Nice OC on the CPU, what voltage?

There seems be a lot of Ti chatter in a non-Ti thread.

If you have the chance to pick up a 1080 Ti I would if at a good price. This would at lest give you an higher edge until you update your Motherboard & CPU.

Ya when it comes to gaming unless I go 8700k or higher not much to be gained on cpu right now. Tomorrow I'm going to see someone about a 1080 ti hopefully we can agree in price. I just can't bring myself to buy an rtx yet. Worse case I'll just dial the settings back. I was curious what results people were still seeing with 1080s and newer cpu's. Spent most of the day gaming and I have really nothing to complain about. It all looked good

I could post some info on my i7-8700K Processor and the GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 Card if you want, I do not want to post anymore off topic information.

thanks to everyone for the assist. Especially Squall_Rinoa86 really helped me understand what benfits i would get seeing your running the same cpu. Im kinda of shocked at how little difference their is in physics between the ti and non ti. Clearly looks like cpu is whats limiting physics. So i bought a used 1080 ti had it die 2 days later. luckily i was able to get my money back. so at this point i'm going to wait for the new rtx's, their supposedly going to be increasing ram speeds,(flashback of how i bought the classified and was not given an icx upgrade) So my short term goal is a new CPU,ram, mobo and after reading about new intel bug i'm really thinking Amd is the way to go. So i turned my resolution down to 1440 and max settings to hold me over. Was really hoping to see some 1080 benchmarks
