I know what the s9 mines, I am talking about the V series. It doesn't say in the message what algorithm it runs. Is it a new series of sha-256 miners?

SHA-256 is an encryption standard. In my mind that's what the mining does... tries to break encryption.  I wonder, a lot in my job as an ISSO if these currencies are backed by foreign actors. Just thinking aloud.
 

i find the funniest part being that they require order increments of 5. so you can not order less than that or just 7 for example, just 5, 10, 15, and so on. meaning they actually cost the same out of pocket as an S9, until those run out of stock.

These are only worth it if you have free power.  They are bitcoin as they are SHA-256, but they are 4 TH at 1027 Watts!! Totally inefficient.  They are cheap, yes, but not cheap to run and won't get you a decent ROI if you pay more than 2.3 cents per kw hour (170 days currently).  Seriously spend the money and buy a graphics card instead and mine zcash, ETH, or something else haha.

But what is the point anymore as it seems they are nothing but garbage now.

They are garbage, with only being useful if you have free power.

I guess in defense of bitcoin, it's cool that you can buy things to get the things that give you bitcoin, internationally.. without using a bank.. what a time to be alive !
