So I played watch dogs legion this morning and at 4k 60 with everything maxed I'm over 10gb according to the in-game benchmark, it tells me that not enough vram is what's holding the game back, i tried it with object detail and ray tracing on and off, with object detail off and rt off im at 60+ fps but the game still says its over 10gb vram, with both those things on I'm at like 30 fps, and in the graphics settings with those settings it still says game needs 9gb of vram, ingame benchmark is very detailed and shows what impact each setting has on cpu,gpu and vram, frametime, vram and ram usage, etc

I'm on mobile so I don't know how to format this separately lol but I'm very interested in 3080 vs 6800xt in this game since 6800xt will have more vram and also vs 3090, I already got ftw3 ultra and 10 warranty plus advanced rma so I won't be selling my 3080 for 6800xt tho, although total money i spent on ftw3 ultra puts me in 6900xt price territory lol.

Feel free to post your benchmark screenshots as well, I'm at work now but I ran the game at 4k ultra + rt + 100% object detail and got around 30-35 fps, then 4k ultra + rt and got around same fps, and when I did 4k ultra rt off and object detail at 0 and finally got over 60 fps

Also I looked at dlss and even with performance setting which renders it at quarter the resolution required vram was still at like 7gb so it seems the game needs a lot of vram no matter the resolution or the settings and benchmark need some patches if it doesnt actually need all that vram because with 4k and all settings maxed graphics settings say you need 8.5gb but benchmark tells me it went over 10gb and thah it needs more vram so I wonder if benchmark takes allocation not being able to go over 10 and tell me that there isn't enough vram but it may actually be fine

It's not VRAM limited what the game is reporting is VRAM requested. Looks to be less than ideally optimized. My RTX 3090 running the same settings with ultra RT and 100% object detail (I'm also using the ultra HD texture pack) returned an average of about 40fps at 4K.

No one should be surprised at this point that a max raytracing setting halves FPS (without DLSS) - at least for Nvidia cards. Numerous reviewers and numerous games have shown this again and again.

can you run the benchmark and post the screenshots of it? Because on that screen its telling me I'm vram limited, I'm guessing is that benchmark is coded to look at vram allocation and tell you its vram limited so they need to patch it to look at actual vram usage, also would you be able to run benchmark at 4k ultra with everything maxed and dlss on and see if you get 60 fps?

I mean... Is this with the High Res texture pack installed too? Just curious.

I have the game downloaded (I think completely, I preloaded & did the HR Texture Pack already), I suppose I could run the benchmark, but I'll be at 3440 x 1440, not 4K.

Now I'm curious.  I'll post back.

Modsrigs link on the left. 3090, OCed. I already have the high res texture pack installed, just didn't have time to play it before heading out. Game res will be 4K, just gotta remember to turn of FPS cap & Gsync.

So I'm going to double check my settings, but this is with RTX fully on I think, Details maxed, only thing I turned off was Depth of Field & Motion Blur (because I dislike both):

I'll double check my settings right quick.

Edit: It seems "Extra Details" makes no that much of a performance difference, I ran it again with that turned down fully, everything else still maxed out, and got 84 Max, 44 average, 29 minimum, 36/31 1% & 0.1% lows.

This benchmark is so pretty it makes me wanna play the game, but I'm definitely going to replay Watch Dogs first & play Watch Dogs 2 for the first time first :-P Even though I know they're linked-ness is limited most likely.

I'm gonna try the more relaxed RTX setting & see if I can spot the differences & see what performance increase it gives.

    Edit 2:

Turning RTX down to High resulted in 102/47/30 Max/Avg/Low, so not much of a lift.

Definitely some fishy performance going on indeed.

I turned down to the "high" preset on the global settings, then turned RTX on to "high" and still got not great frame rates. 96/58/30 max/avg/low.

Game looks amazing & is silky smooth despite the FPS being as low as it is though, hopefully that patch fixes things so they run at a higher frame rate more consistently.

Edit: Tried Performance DLSS, I can definitely "see" the DLSS effect, which is disappointing, but it did ramp up the frame rate a fair bit, got 110/71/46 - on Ultra/max settings on everything.

Edit 2: 100/60/29 for "Quality" DLSS, everything else Ultra/Maxed.  Looked MUCH better with that setting.

So at fully maxed 4k60, DLSS off, my VRAM use was sub-10GB. This might change in game during gameplay, but a 3080 isn't running the game fully maxed 4k60 anyway. Plenty of other games can exceed 10GB in max usage scenarios, but a 3080 isn't going to be going over that easily unless you enjoy 4k30.

I think y'all will be fine. That's from a 3090 user. 4k60 maxed fully is a stable 30-33fps only. VRAM around 9-10ish. With RTX to ultra.

New drivers for Legions (among others): https://forums.evga.com/N...Released-m3131526.aspx
can you or someone else please do some previous driver and this driver comparison, im at work all day so won't get to mess with this

Not from work, but I'm certain that some other enterprising individual(s) will!

Likely the promised RTX performance patch that the dev is working on will help (probably more).

If I'm awake enough I'll do some before & after stuff, but I'd say waiting for the initial patch that's coming tomorrow would be prudent as well.

    Post Driver Update:

81/43/27 for Ultra/Maxed settings, RTX on Ultra, DLSS off @ 3440 x 1440 - so the average improved a whoppin' 1FPS, max went down,  but I think maximum has a big run to run variance, and low stayed the same.

Hopefully the patch coming tomorrow will do some work, but again, the game looks very smooth & not at all jittery, so I'd assume the frame time is very good despite the FPS going as long as the high 20s.

Edit: For a further point of reference, did RTX off: 124/71/43 Max/Avg/Min

Without DLSS...Ultra everything else. 1440p. No OC on the FTW3.

Are you absolutely sure the benchmark is showing you VRAM in use and not VRAM requested?  Most software only shows VRAM requested and not actual VRAM in use.

Ryzen R9 3950X, RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra, Two RTX 2080 XC Super, 64 GB DDR4 3600 MHz, 1 TB PCIE 4.0 NVMe SSD, 1 TB PICE 3.0 NVMe SSD, 2 TB 2.5" SSD, 8TB 7200 RPM HDD, 1300 Watt EVGA PSU, 850 watt Seasonic PSIU, O11 Dynamic XL case.

Was hoping the drivers would improve performance. Hope tomorrow’s update makes a difference.
