So I was playing my games as I usually do. Then everything went black. I checked everything in my pc but It refused to boot back up after that. Just a small flash and spin from my fans then off again. I tried literally everything and the only thing that works is if I take the graphics card out. Idk what could’ve happened I’ve had my pc for 3 years now and my graphics card just dies like that??!!? I put my card into another pc but it just dose the exact same thing, but when taking it out again I have to reset my bios on my mother board for it to even boot up. It looks like there’s a tinny bit of corrosion on one screw. But it’s literally only on 1 far back left screw, i checked everywhere in my pc but that’s the only sign of rust or anything. Nor was there any sign of spills or anything. Plus the screw that is corroded dosnt even line up with the vent holes at the top. Idk what could’ve happened I’m so stumped.

My specs:
I5 6500
8gb ddr 4
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW gaming
1tb
120ssd
Evga 700

Sounds like the card is toast since it does the same thing in another pc.

RMA would definitely help. Cards can die at anytime without warning.

I would test another video card in it.

Ty for the help. They’re trying to get out of my 4yr warranty. I have an RMA set up but because there’s a tinny bit of corrosion on a screw they said they might not cover it. But like how the heck is that my fault, and what’s the point of buying a warranty if my stuff brakes and they don’t even help...

I don’t have an extra to test rn. I guess I’m just going to end up buying a new one for the test

It sounds like OCP (Over Current Protection) is kicking in.  The video card is dead.  The VRM Power Stages/MOSFETs tend to burn out (especially on the 900 series cards), which causes to card to essentially overload the power supply.  It dies, just like that.

Damn really, dose rma cover for any of that? Because I’m still in warranty and it’s not like I ****ed around with card or any settings to cause such problem.

From my experience if your card is within warranty they will cover it. Best customer service in the business.

They’re saying it’s under “physical damage”. But I didn’t do anything physical to my computer In 3 years. It sat one place away from any drinks for my screw and my card to up and fry?

Operating your card in a humid environment? Yeah, they can void your warranty for that. Corrosion isn't covered by the warranty.

If one screw is corroded, there is more corrosion elsewhere. Your images are just too low-quality and blurry to see.

    For instance, what's this?

    More corrosion?

Plastic film which should be removed is circled in blue.  Evidence that the film is still there is circled in red.

I can't tell if the fan hubs still have the film installed.  It kind of looks like it is still there, but I am not certain.
