I'm looking to upgrade my GTX 1080 and obviously I'm in the same boat as everyone else in terms of getting a new card.

But I was looking for some help narrowing my search so I'm not wasting my time on cards that probably wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

Should I be looking for cards that are basically 3070 and above? Maybe including the 2080 and 2080ti?

Thanks for the advice.

Really it depends on what resolution or refresh rate your going for. Personally my GTX 1080 just barely manages 1440p 60fps High much less 144hz or ultra settings so I'm shooting for a 3080 3080ti or 6900xt

Yeah I know. Just trying to make sure when drops do happen I'm not wasting my time going for a card that won't really be much of an upgrade.

    Thanks for the advice.

I'd say minimum 3070. Currently running a 1080ti on a 144Mhz Gsync monitor no problems.  Good luck!
Of course you should have a decent enough CPU as well. I'm using an i7 8700k. I bit long in the tooth but works quite well!

I have the 1080 SC2 honestly I say wait for the 3080TI. Issue with my 1080 is its VRAM usage is strange. I'd have a game use only like 5GB of it but the utilization would be near 90%. I'm personally trying for a 3080(TI).
With the issues with supply I dont think PC games are going to be graphically demanding anytime soon. So the 3080 will get you high frames at 1440p and should be good until at least 2028 (next console generation should be around the corner then and new technologies would be baked into those cards (ie like DLSS or RTX) which is what I truly wish I had on my 1080.

Unless everything suddenly starts getting raytraced I think a 3080 is pretty much the gold standard for 1440p, especially with DLSS. You shouldn't need another card ever unless it dies. Just like the 1080 for 1080p (almost makes you think they did that on purpose ).

That being said, I'm putting my faith in getting a 3080ti. If I miss that boat too I guess I'm waiting for the inevitable 4000 series.

Thinking the 3080Ti will be the sweet spot. AMD claims it will be shifting more FAB to VC but then again
they said we have plenty of cards at launch and we saw how that's gone!!

I am using a 1080Ti atm, an for me the best option to upgrade would be a 3080Ti (of course, if you can get one).

There's nothing wrong with a 2080super... besides the prices for em right now. Anything below that isn't really much of an upgrade from a 1080, so since even just a 2080super costs so much right now, just try your damndest to get a 3070 at msrp or try to snag a "good" auction on one, but you're not likely to walk away with a 3070 from the scalper market for anything less than $1300-$1400 right now, maybe try and get the dell one, as they are selling for less than all the rest, until you are able to get the one you want. If you are looking to get a whole new system, you can just buy a whole prebuilt with a 3070 in it, it's expensive, but so is the scalper market.

+1.... Just sit tight and maybe mod your 1080 to run a little cooler and pull more out of it for now. I cannot convey how hard it is to get your hands on a card. You need friends/family in high....or interesting places at least to have any hope. The crypto market will be crashing soon, most likely around september-ish, give or take, from what ive been hearing so some things may be changing then. Unless your rich and want to put loot in scalpers pockets and perpetuate the nonsense thats going on, im sure a 1080 can get you by for awhile. Thats a damn good card.

At your resolution and refresh rate, the 3070ti, 3080, 3080ti should be the best cards that will last at least 3 years. If you manage to catch a good b-stock restock for old cards, you have to get at least a 2080 super to see any worthwhile improvement over a gtx 1080.

Just get what ever you can get your hand on. 3070 is easier to get comparing to 3080.

3070 seems like a fair upgrade to me. I just got one myself. As long as you're not vram limited, you ought to expect somewhere around 30-50% better frames.
    I don't think I'd bother with anything less - 3060 12gb is a downgrade, 3060ti is nearly a sidegrade.

Honestly the only thing thats really better would be the 3070. Go for that or higher. When it comes to high res gaming the 1080 just struggles.

Right now, not a good idea to upgrade unless you sell your 1080 ti. If you just want more frames, you will probably want something high end, which is overpriced right now.

There are only a few graphics cards better than 1080 ti right now.

I wouldn't go for anything less than a 3080 at this point, but the 3070 definitely is easier to buy. If you're 1080p then 3070 would be pretty good if you're looking to upgrade now.

Im in the same boat as u and what im trying to get is a 3080. Its literally perfect for 1440p and like some people already said its gonna be more futureproof than 3070 for sure so that might save u some money in the long run

According to UserBenchmarks when comparing overall scores to a 1080:
    3060 (-9%)
    3060ti (+21%)
    3070 (+30%)
    3080 (+45%)
3090 (+116%)  This one seems suspicious to me… but I don’t have any data to disprove it.
While the specs have not been officially announced, if you are limited to 1440p gaming, it may be worth considering the 3070 ti as well.  At least I would not go any lower than that if you want to see a reasonable upgrade. If you are going 4k then you probably want a 3080.

Alot of places ban for posting user benchmark. Evga doesn't. Place is full of bad data. Cool of you to help but user bench is badddd and I want to give you a friendly heads up before you get flamed out for it lol.

Honestly you can shoot for your resolution rate, but then what about budget, are you trying to stay in the EVGA family of cards? also i think we are all falling into the boat my 1080Ti is starting to get a little long in the tooth. GL
