I picked up a X99 motherboard, CPU and RAM from the marketplace forum. Now I need some advice and a sanity check on my temps.

It's the stock Intel cooler for X99 and running on the 5930K. I'm seeing temps close to 80C which seem high but ok given the heavy crunching workload and folding. But the cooler is fight above the FTW3 which us now pushing 90C under load with crunching and 83C under load with crunching idle. Memory and power is still tracking in the mid 60s though and I'm thinking the cooler is venting right behind the gpu die.

Normally I'd pick up a new cooler right away but this odd site evga.com/diy seems to indicate I should wait and do a loop instead of picking up a 280 clc from EVGA.

I'm probably for now dropping folding on the ftw3 to keep temps down. My Noctua coolers won't fit due to the slot spacing and man is the slot 1 to slot 2 super tight on the x99 micro2. I had to put ftw3 in slot 1 and ftw2 in slot 3 otherwise there is almost zero gap between cards. Even the hybrid kit on the ftw2 or 1080ti SC Black would be constrained there.

Edit - 5930k

I didn't realize it was a micro until the last paragraph. Is it in a case? (what size). It seems like you need more space for air or a loop.

Meanwhile crunch SETI for the team, the gpu WU's run very cool.

DG-87 case, so plenty of airflow.
Temps are find absent folding. SRbase is crunching on 9 threads and temps are in the low 70s on the CPU and 40s on the FTW3. The gpu might be lower it I wasn't peeking in on teamviewer.
Loop is eventual plan. So now or later when EVGA finally drops their custom prefilled loop on us. Supposedly we find out next friday.

I have the micro2 and a 6800k. I'm surprised you can't fit a noctua (unless you have a dh)-- I was able to fit my noctua uh 140mm by rotating it to exhaust upwards (have an enthoo evolve with top fan and vents which may help it -- Temps run <=60deg for most crunching at 4.2ghz (e.g einstein@home))

DH-15 and a C-14, the first slot is just too close.

Sounds crazy but 105c is tjmax for that series.. so 80c is nothing to worry about. Just keep the air moving and you'll be fine.

I shouldn't worry, but I do anyway. Sent my 1080ftw2 back to base for a step up 1080ti SC Black. I already have the hybrid kit ready and waiting. I put the ssd on a pcie riser to give more breath to the ftw3 and temps are back down to normal. Slot spacing is way too tight between the first 2 slots. If I move the ssd into the m.2 slot I loose the 3rd pcie slot, but I can use the hybrid kit in slot 1, keep the ssd in slot 2 as the card won't block the hybrid fan and move the ftw3 to the bottom slot. Then use a set of flexible bridges for SLI when I occasionally game.
Temps still hit 60c or more with the cpu, clocked in at 4.125Ghz, with the gpu clocking in to the mid 60s with the aggressive fan profile (haven't overclocked yet - waiting on final system build).
Things will be perfect once I get my hands on the ftw3 hybrid kit.
