I am currently running an ASUS Hero (Intel) Z87 4770k. It's old, I know, but dependable.......... until now. I lost a port that my mouse (which is also old) plugged into. I switched to a different port and that got me back up and running. I'll take this as an early warning.
After looking at both Intel and AMD I am considering AMD's 1950 Thread ripper. Uncertain about the motherboard at the moment.
Rechecked prices and Intel is a few dollars lower. If it keeps this up I could be back into an Intel.
As of right now EVGA has the video card locked up. I have an EVGA 980ti in service.
Then there is the issue of not having a wide selection of water cooling available.
This also means that I (reluctantly) have to run Win 10.
