I know that comparability is going to be key, and i am wanting to upgrade my E767 board which i'm reading can take either of these chips (i think). I'm having a tough time deciding between the 2.

What is most everyone using, and why? i'm not too worried about a $30-40 price difference. I see the W3680 for around $40-50 and the W3690 for around $80-90. And it looks like the X5690 is around $90-100.

Which is the best? Which is fastest at stock clocks?

i mean if it was a huge price difference, i could see that as a factor, but were talking sub $100, so im willing to spend a few more bucks to get the better cpu for this upgrade.

i think i answered my own question... i just couldn't find a good site or review. I think the W3690 is the winner, and not by much. I only really see the advantage on the X5690 side if you were going to go over 24gb of ram, which i will not be. 12gb is plenty for me. From i can read, the W3690 doesnt support more than 24gb.

here is a good site review for both chips for those who want to see what i am seeing:

if i remember correct W3690 has multiplier unlocked , X5690 has not BUT both can reach 4++ ghz easy.
depends what your goals will be,for me i would choose the cheaper since are so close and i am going to overclock a lot
