Yikes 6900XT is $800 cheaper and offers same performance. 

If I knew AMD was going to have 6900XT stock readily available at launch, I'd be tempted to pass on the 3090. Primarily because my build is AMD this time around and I plan to pick up one of their new procs as soon as they drop. No way I can wait until mid-December to find out though.

That is for the purchase email queue, not the step up queue, however I do understand what you meant by not encouraging, limited stock has been the norm since launch so, no news there...

Sounds like they are changing the card, unless I'm reading to much into it. Could just be something as simple as changing the red accents to black and starting a new SKU or as drastic as reworking the card itself.

Yeah it took them awhile to get me to step 5 after I paid.

Shipped out my old card tonight, just in time to see RX 6900 XT benchmarks match the 3090 for $1000. Considering I still had to pay about $700 with shipping for the step-up that kinda sucks. I expect we’ll see a price decrease on 3090 soon too.

I'm sure that hurt a lot of people at least until they realized Raytracing performance hasn't really been seen yet.  Or a DLSS alternative.  Those really make the 30 series shine, IMO, for now.  Gotta see how much of a hit the 60 series will take when the DSR is fully realized in DXII ultimate.

I’m rendering and content creation with my 3090, so the 24GB is a solid win and benchmarks in rendering applications are definitely looking solid. I doubt the 6900xt will compare in content creation. But I suppose I’m a niche customer

Mine showed up today. Had a super hard time getting it to seat in the PCIe slot for some reason, and the plastic is stuck in the heatsink fins like they assembled it after they wrapped it.. kind of annoying. I couldn't get it all the way out

Not to mention the drivers are being a pain in the ass to install. Geforce experience keeps freezing up

Did you use CC Cleaner to remove all the old drivers first, and then do a fresh install of Nvidia?

I had this issue, too.  I unscrewed the shroud and discovered there's a *tab* of that plastic that goes into the tiny gap between shroud and heatsink fins:

 
So I peeled off this remaining plastic wrap, and then screwed the shroud back on.  Had to use a tiny hex screw for the sides but it was easy to do - which will come in handy when I wanna get rid of the clown lips.
