Here is a somewhat off topic but still related question for you guys, if my graphics card dies when in the step up queue what happens?

I'm not 100% sure it's the card yet, but when browsing the internet I lost my picture, black screen. No reboot or anything, just the image went. So I tried a restart and I now have a mobo error code d6. As I'm watercooled I'll need to drain my loop which I'll do tomorrow.

Seems like it could be a few things, my riser cable, my DP cable, my mobo, my CPU (B550 board so it handles GPU lane) or my GPU. I'll obviously have to contact EVGA if it's the GPU but I really hope it doesn't mess up this queue. I've been in it for like 9 months.

Sadly I think it's gonna end this way. A 3080 is going to remain a beast of a card but I was just so happy to have the latest xx80 card for once in my life :(

EVGA have accepted my card seems faulty which is good, but I did ask a follow up question about the step up.

For anyone who has recently sent to Germany is there anything I need to be aware of not to hit EVGA with customs? I've seen some horror story posts about that and EVGA reject delivery and the item comes back to you.

Nope they will get hit with something regardless.

When it is the standard processing rate they will pay HOWEVER, EVGA, will not pay for items that incur charges when the DDP option wasn't checked.

I believe when this not checked it travels as undeclared and customs expect EVGA to pay a full charge, which they will not pay,  hence the card gets returned to sender.

I can state that I did not have to pay anything other than the original postage when sending and nothing on receipt of my 3080.

Yeah I was doing my reading today to get it right first time. Following the UPS guide one of the other posters in this topic made and it seems a few of you have too and its been all OK. A bit more optimistic now. I'll see what the official instructions are when my RMA is approved, I'm guessing they will mention to do DDP.

Heavy gutted my 2080Ti decided to die but I guess I'll still be a few months out for my step up anyway.

EVGA accepted my RMA today so I'm going to follow the advice here https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3255355 as it seems to have worked for other posters and resulted in no charges at EVGA end in Germany that would cause them to reject the delivery.

RMA advice is not to send original box/manual/etc, but I find the original packaging is great for protection so I guess I'll just send it and hope they send some retail packaging back my way. I'm paranoid about making sure the card even if it isn't working is sent properly packaged/protected.

Even although this is the step up topic I'll feed back how I get on, this is the first thing I've sent abroad post Brexit. I have asked a question in my current ticket, but if EVGA don't respond before tomorrow I'll likely just ship as per advice in the topic I linked above so I can get my replacement asap. I didn't do the advanced RMA even although I had the option. I read its double value of product now and as I bought a 2080Ti my double value will be over 2k. I know it's temporary but with the slight worry over delivery issues with Brexit I'd rather not have 2k taken off my account at the moment and then end up in some multiple-week saga if shipping has complications.

lol, it has been slow progress.

To follow up on above, EVGA CS got back to me quite quickly and have stated they will internally request a proforma invoice, whatever that is. Seems it will help increase the chances of sending to Germany and deal with the Brexit mess on custom charges.

That could be another tip for anyone doing a step up when the EU queue moves again.

I wouldn't send in the original box, can imagine a very weird bUt wHeRe iS tHe OrIgInaL bOx?! moment during StepUp, but may just expect the worst meanwhile.

My last RMA has been a while ago, and I don't know how things may have changed since 2013, but I lost my retail box this way and received my working replacement in a simple but branded small EVGA box. They just put it in bubble foil bags, filled the box with more of those bags, and that's basically what I would be doing. Put the card in an antistatic foil bag, wrap some bubble foil around it if you have, find a smaller box to stuff the padded card in, put that in a bigger box and give it more padding. Got one of those old air popcorn makers? Kept some of those packing air bags? I've used old newspaper or paper spam as cushion as well. Usually a double box with enough padding to keep the small box from bouncing around does the trick.

BTW where are the regular queue cards being sent from? I've seen those KR - KL switcharoo posts, people suddenly received KR cards, and yet there were none for the StepUp queue.

Fair point, I never considered if they would ask for retail box back for the Step Up exchange.

EVGA support yet again very helpful and fast to respond

"Many thanks for your reply. Enclosed you will find the proforma invoice. Please print it three times and attach in on the outside of the parcel (all in same place is fine). Make sure to also put the RMA number on the outside of the parcel. I can not recommend to use DPD for the shipping as we do not get response from them after providing them with customs paperwork. Parcelforce and UPS are the best from our experience, but beside DPD any other courier should work. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Posting the above in here as its a good piece of advice for people in the UK NOT to use DPD.

I will be using UPS and I will be buying directly from them, I am not risking using any of those parcel price comparison companies. Happier to be a few £ more going directly and getting piece of mind with shipping.

Re: Unofficial 3080 Step Up Queue Thread - EUROPE 2021/07/31 07:13:52 (permalink)
Package away, fingers crossed. I actually ended up using EVGAs invoices in the end. They state DDP on them as well and basically say "RMA, item has no value, value listed for customs only". Customer support provided me with this invoice when I asked for some help with Brexit.

But I popped my UPS generated invoice and another 3 copies of the EVGA invoice inside the box incase customs open it.

So there is a total of 9 invoices heading to Germany lmao. 3 on the outside of the box as stated necessary from EVGA, and 6 inside. The place I dropped the package off at even wanted to check I had 3 invoices on the outside, so that is indeed 100% a requirement.

Postage cost was £27 odd. It would have been £24.99, but one of the options recommended to use was "signature required" and UPS charge more for that :/ Kind of sucks paying that for a warranty, but what are you going to do? If things go OK for me I might search for cheaper postage for my Step Up.

It's actually an RMA not the step up, I'm still waiting on my position in the queue. Sadly my card died whilst waiting lol.

But the process of sending is the same as a step up so I thought it was worthwhile documenting it in here seeing as actual step ups in Europe seem to be dead right now.

So will you get a 3080 at the end of the day?

I hope they will send out 2 cards for next drop! : )

Eventually, yeah, but not this time. I actually politely "asked" about the step up to see if EVGA would just swap my 2080Ti for a 3080 on repair, but nah, obviously not, the queue is the queue lol.

Once I get a repaired 2080Ti sent back I've just to message CS and they'll update my step up with the new serial number and its back to waiting. I'm in November in the queue. I think I might not even see a 3080 this year now.

UPS only picked up my package today, after nonsense over the past 72 hours and a delay on their part, my 2080Ti will only be heading Germany bound tonight. Good start. Up next, customs.

Package arrived and signed for, no issues with customs going into Germany This is using UPS and I used an invoice EVGA provided me with. It might cost you a bit more using UPS than some others, but seems they are getting things to Germany with ease.

But I'm worried biggest problem is coming back in to UK https://forums.evga.com/UK-Customs-Charges-For-RMA-18269-m3442465.aspx

Well the longer we wait and with Igor's articles on the problems with this card the less I want one xD And especially now that the prices are coming down somewhat I might just go ahead and buy from another manufacturer next month or so. Still better to pay a 100€ more to use the card soon rather than get an outdated card end of next year...

My 2080Ti RMA shipped and thankfully it's a replacement 2080Ti. I do watercooling so my block is for a 2080Ti and as much as some people would see a 3070 as an "upgrade", seeing as I'm in the 3080 step up queue all getting a 3070 would do for me right now is complicate watercooling lol. Was worried about that as I've seen EVGA ship 3070s to a few people RMAing 2080Tis the last few months.

Bad news is its shipped by DHL and it seems nearly everything they bring into the UK right now, even if a repair, gets hit with horrendous custom charges. So I've got that fight next :/ Wish EVGA was using UPS back to the UK, they seem like the only company that knows how to properly handle RMA and Brexit if the correct forms/invoices are provided.

When did you guys sign up? I combed through the thread recently, which became even more depressing, seeing how many more people are ahead of me (01.11.), but I didn't find either of you.

Apparently there are good news though. Something must have moved.

"The international shipment has been processed in the parcel center of origin August, 11 2021 20:18 Local time | Augsburg, Germany"

I guess this is the part where the package is stuck in Germany for days lol. If UPS can get something into Germany in like 24 hours and delivered, going to be a bit disappointing if DHL takes days or weeks to ship something out. I know they were bad last year/early this year, but I believe most of that was COVID related. Understandable.

As I haven't seen anyone else talk about needing to do an RMA whilst in the step up queue, what I can see so far is EVGA automatically register the new serial of the RMA device sent out to you on your profile. But it registers as a new product while your step up is still tied to the old serial. I was advised this wouldn't be an issue but I will be following up with customer service to confirm. Because when my turn in the queue comes sending this 2080Ti back would mean a different serial number.
